Omega-3 Deficiency #1 Reason Pets Develop
Flaky Skin
Dry, itchy skin is often seen in dogs and cats. Many pet guardians will try changes in grooming patterns or products with no relief for their pets. When flaky skin persists in pets, dietary factors could be what are keeping them from enjoying healthy skin and a shiny coat.
Dietary deficiency is the number one reason that Dr. Karen Becker sees excessive flaking with pets in her veterinary practice. She recently posted an educational video on the topic, explaining, "Deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids is the specific dietary cause for the flaking to occur. Dogs and cats need an abundance of omega-3 fatty acids."1 Dr. Becker is an integrative wellness veterinarian and was named one of Chicago's Top Ten Vets, according to Chicago Magazine.
As Dr. Becker pointed out, carnivores thrive on the essential nutrients from animal fats in foods. Most premium pet foods, contain plenty of healthy Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids. However, if your customers are still seeing itchy, flaky skin on their dogsand cats, you might recommend a supplement that provides additional essential fatty acids.
"Deficiency of omega-3 fatty acids is the specific dietary cause for the flaking to occur. Dogs and cats need an abundance of omega-3 fatty acids."
North Atlantic sardine oil, is a natural, rich source of Omega-3 Fatty Acids. This brilliant, gold oil is the most popular source of EPA and DHA used in dietary supplements. It contains more EPA and DHA than salmon oil and has naturally lower levels of environmental contaminants. The oil is then purified and molecularly distilled to remove all the traces of harmful contaminants and to achieve its human, pharmaceutical grade. Supplementing with sardine oil can help to relieve a pet's itchy, flaky skin. |

Enjoying Autumn
Here are some safety tips for your outdoor adventures so that your trip is enjoyable and you arrive back home safe and sound:
Wear blaze orange when hunting or hiking outdoors.
Fall big game hunting seasons for antelope, deer, elk, moose, bear, bighorn sheep and mountain goat begin with archery hunters in August and finish with rifle hunters around mid-November.
Wear the proper attire outside including layers that can be removed as the weather warms up and raingear to shield you from afternoon storms. Quick dry garments will dry faster than cotton clothing (jeans or sweatshirts), which allow your body to lose heat when wet.
Keep dogs on a leash and obey leash laws to keep them from running after wildlife, OR attracting the wrong wildlife back to their owner. Use orange vests or flagging attached to their collars to keep them visible and bells to prevent them from startling wildlife.

An important message to improve the lives of all dogs.
Dear AKC Breeder,
The next time you receive a new AKC Litter Kit, including your dog registration applications, you'll see it's different.
The look has changed to celebrate the many ways breeders and owners help dogs every time they register. While you know registration is important for breeding and showing purebred dogs, you may not know that registration does so many other things for the betterment of dogs everywhere.
Every time you or one of your owners has registered a dog with the AKC it has helped make it possible to fund over $30 million towards kennel inspections, canine health research, lost dog recovery, and search & rescue support. Imagine how much more could be done if every one of your new dog owners registered their puppies as well!
The litter kit, including the dog registration applications, now beautifully highlights all the good things breeders and owners do for dogs each time they register. It also serves as a reminder that it is both breeder and owner registration fees that help to fund these efforts.
We ask that you take the time to become familiar with these new materials and share them with your buyers. As an AKC breeder, you are already a large part of this "Good Things We Do" effort. You are in the best position to tell new dog owners why registering their puppies is important. As the breeder of their new puppy, they will rely on you to know what's best for their new family member.
Please walk your new dog owners through the new dog registration application. Explain to them how their registration fee will help support kennel inspections, canine health research, lost dog recovery and search & support. You'll be playing a vital role in improving the lives of all dogs. On behalf of dogs everywhere. . .Thank You!

Please note if you are a Breeder Of Merit, they have several breed specific logos to put on your website.

Halloween
Be safe this Halloween and keep dogs away from candy (especially sugar-free candies that use Xylitol and chocolate.) Put dogs away if costumed greeters might cause them to worry or better yet, use the night to teach your dog to run to their bed every time they hear the doorbell. Poison Control Hotlines It's always a good idea to post close at hand your veterinarian's number, the number of an emergency clinic, and the number for the Poison Control Center.
Before you call, note the time your pet was exposed to the toxin, the type of product ingested, the manufacturer's name and any ingredients you can find listed on packaging.
ASPCA Ani-Med 1.888.721.9100 ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center 1.888.426.4435 They charge a flat fee of $65.00 per issue. Tuft University School of Veterinary Medicine 508.839.5395 Pet Lover's Helpline 1.900.776.0007 Don't let costumed children frighten your dogs.
