We are specialized in structural bamboo, the lumber of the future. Most of our houses are green buildings, built with bamboo, recycled lumber and environmentally conscious materials.

Beekeeping
At Maui Retreat, we have a bee hive with one queen bee and about 10,000
worker bees. They pollinate all the fruit trees on the property.

Vermiculture
All our extra office paper is shredded and put into a vermiculture
system where it is fed to worms, which convert it into extremely rich
worm castings, perfect for fertilizing the gardens.

Aloha.
Welcome to our first official newsletter of our Maui Retreat. We are very proud to announce that since February of this year we are legal after a two year permit process and we are called the greenest spot on Maui.
Once upon a time our land was just piece of jungle, no roads, no water, no electricity ONLY invasive trees and bad soil. As you can imagine, that was a place that called forth a grand vision, perseverance, and enough sweat and prayers to pursue our dream. Now, we are ready to share our dream and manifestation with you.
We have grown into the finishing stages. Only the fine touches are left. The ongoing love for the land and the edible gardens will be maintained. We are excited now to share with you our ecological magical retreat garden with many of the structures built with the lumber of the future - bamboo.
Our solar system is soon to be married to a wind turbine. A green energy "couple" that will rock our land, as the wind can be strong and the sun in Hawaii is plentful. If you would like to find out "What makes us an eco-retreat center"? please here.

Amazing Bamboo
 In 1988 when we bought this beautiful piece of jungle with no water, no road and no electricity, we were dedicated to creating a place of harmony and sustainability with nature and people. Inspired by our travels to the East, we were taken by the versitality of bamboo. We started the first bamboo farm on Maui and since then the use of bamboo has grown into an industry of green building materials. In 1996, we brought in the first container with 40,000 bamboo poles to create a prototype of a bamboo structure. From there, the prototype developed into pre-fab houses built in Vietnam.
