 What began in 1996 as a family-friendly way to celebrate the New Year, has become a cherished Cleveland POPS Orchestra New Year's Eve tradition to thousands of Ohioans who return year after year to enjoy the finest in pops music and entertainment. A two-hour concert, featuring our world-class orchestra and nationally renowned guest artists, is followed with social dancing welcoming in the new year. The dancing is accompanied by two orchestras located in both the grand foyer and the Smith Lobby of Severance Hall.
What could be more elegant and eye-appealing than a New Year's Eve spent at one of the most magnificent and opulent concert halls in the world, listening and dancing to the finest in quality music and entertainment. But, don't be intimidated by the splendor of Severance Hall. Come dressed as you feel -- CASUAL or BLACK TIE. The POPS' New Year's Eve party is all about having a great time in a great hall, with wonderful music and entertainment.

 Cleveland POPS New Year's Eve gala event begins at 9:00 p.m. with a full two-hour performance of selections by the orchestra, conducted by Carl Topilow, and songs sung by J. Mark McVey and Capathia Jenkins. The program will include:

"Feuerfest Polka" by Josef Strauss (with party horns)
"Immer Kleiner" (smaller and smaller) by Adolph Schreiner ( a comedy piece featuring Carl Topilow on clarinet)
Medlies from the Broadway hits of "Grease" and "Bye, Bye Birdie"
"Turkish March" by Ludwig van Beethoven (with party horns)
"Syncopated Clock" by Leroy Anderson
"Hang on Sloopy" the official rock song of the State of Ohio . . . . . and many more

 Social dancing begins at 11 p.m. and continues until 1 a.m. on New Year's morning.
Those choosing to dance have their choice of two dance locations at Severance Hall:
- THE BEAUTIFUL GRAND FOYER, where you can dance to the music of Carl Topilow and the Cleveland POPS dance band and experience the fabulous balloon drop at the stroke of midnight.
- THE SPACIOUS SMITH LOBBY, where the contemporary soft rock band "Splash" will play for your dancing pleasure and listening enjoyment.
Those patrons not wanting to dance may sit, enjoy a beverage or free coffee, and watch the festivities.

Refreshments are available for guests of Cleveland POPS New Year's Eve event.
