| BEACON GOES TO MINOT | |
Beacon of Hope President and Founder, Denise Thornton, and Executive Director, Tina Marquardt, traveled to Minot, North Dakota to consult with the Minot Foundation on how to assist their flood ravaged city. Although the disasters between New Orleans and Minot were not identical, the challenges and roadblocks that individual residents face are the same.
Beacon's MODEL involving resident driven activities has proven a success in New Orleans. We feel we can jump start their recovery with the experience and knowledge gained over the last six years, in lieu of the uncertainty and hesitation that all communities feel after a natural disaster of this magnitude.

| BEACON MEETS WITH INTERNATIONAL DELEGATES | | |
Beacon of Hope along with the New Orleans Citizen Diplomacy Council (NOCDC) hosted a group of 17 visitors coming to New Orleans through the State Department's International Visitor Leadership Program to study Emergency Preparedness and Civic Engagement. Executive Director, Tina Marquardt, presented on how The Beacon of Hope model provided a vehicle for resident driven activities allowing communities to take control of their own recovery along with providing rebuild assistance.
The NOCDC is a non-profit organization that arranges professional appointments and cultural activities for over 400 international leaders sent to New Orleans each year from the U.S. State Department International Visitor Leadership Program.

Mission:
Leading the way home, Beacon of Hope Resource Center provides a model for recovery in neighborhoods devastated by Hurricane Katrina, as well as other areas affected by disaster. Providing information and resources, encouraging civic action, and fostering repopulation form the foundation on which we build and grow. Beacon of Hope empowers residents to facilitate their own recovery, while providing a hub of resident driven activities and a safe environment. This creates the synergy essential for restoring viable neighborhoods and improve the overall quality of life.
Sincerely,
