Mr. Jeremy Bercey worked alongside Youth Build and together they hung insulation and sheet rock as well as updated the flooring and kitchen. He is about to pass his home inspections and move in.

Ms. Jackie Washington had her back yard cleaned and a brand new fence installed. She now has a great yard that she and her family can enjoy.

Lemonade Day is a free citywide community educational program designed to teach youth how to start, own and operate their own business - a lemonade stand. This May, tens of thousands of kids across the nation will set up lemonade stands in their communities, providing schools, businesses and families the unique opportunity to come together to help our next generation learn essential entrepreneurial skills and valuable life lessons.

BEACON OF HOPE BOARD MEMBER SPEAKS TO WEST POINT CASETS

Al Petrie, Beacon of Hope Board Member, heads a group helping to rebuild the Lakeview section of New Orleans. They have a connection to West Point where USMA cadets take an alternate Spring break working in New Orleans each year. Col. Smith, who does the MC duties in this ceremony, should be applauded for reaching out to the Corp of Engineers in New Orleans years ago to help serve this broken community!  The presentation includes before and after pictures that are very compelling, as is the delivery by Mr. Petrie.

CALIFORNIA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT PLANTS NEW HOPE FOR NEW ORLEANS

Thank you to Santa Clara, CA high school student Katelyn Boxill.  Katelyn worked alongside Beacon of Hope and People to People in "Rebuilding New Orleans-Remembering Katrina" last summer. Although her time here was over a year ago, the communities of New Orleans remain in her heart and mind.

Last month, Katelyn worked with Global Youth Day organizers and students were asked to carry out volunteer projects to help their communities. Katelyn decided to step away from her community and give back to New Orleans. A care package was received by The Beacon of Hope from Katelyn containing a variety of flower seeds that will be distributed to various neighborhoods in order to realize Katelyn's hope of continuing to beautify New Orleans.

Thank you Katelyn!
