AskNOLA Online Now: Fielding 311 Issues
AskNOLA logo
AskNOLA.com, a new solution to directing 311 issues to relevant city agencies is now online and ready to use.

The system allows residents to report infrastructure issues ranging from potholes to streetlight outages and from rat infestations to abandoned cars into an online form that sends the information to the appropriate city agency to address the issue.

AskNOLA features include a city-wide map of reported issues, downloadable data sets for neighborhood data-tracking, and mobile applications for iphone, Blackberry, and Android!  Additionally, AskNOLA provides a tracking number for each issue reported, so that residents can see the progress on issues they report.

Click here to view the "AskNOLA Implementation Guide."

Beacon of Hope Resource Center encourages neighborhoods to continue to gather consolidated infrastructure information during property condition surveys and to report that information to AskNOLA.  For questions on tracking infrastructure issues, contact Laura Mellem, Neighborhood Coordinator at Beacon of Hope, 504-309-5120.

Superintendent Serpas said, "One of the key measures to our success is the growth in strong partnerships with members of our community. The Citizens Police Academy provides an opportunity for citizens to gain a better understanding of the responsibilities and challenges we face each day.  It is through collaboration and community involvement, that we can successfully fight criminal activity."

The Citizens Police Academy provides information and knowledge about the New Orleans Police Department to the citizens of the community.  Citizens Police Academies serve as a component of Superintendent Serpas' community policing programs.  Participants learn about the criminal justice system and how they can work with law enforcement to address community problems.

There will be another round of the Citizens Police Academy beginning the evening of January 5th 2011.  There is only room for 50 applicants, so if you are interested, get your application in soon.  Complete the requested information and email the form back to Sergeant Michael Levasseur at malevasseur@nola.gov.  Find us on Facebook

Youth Rebuild 2

Youth Rebuild, an organization that helps at-risk youth earn a GED while learning construction skills, has been a partner of Beacon of Hope for over a year.  This month, youth from the program are working with Beacon at Ms. Sylvia's home in Mirabeau Gardens.  With help from the volunteers, Ms. Sylvia will have newly installed baseboards and linoleum floors in the kitchen and bedrooms, repaired drywall, a new back door and a freshly painted interior.  Thanks in advance to all the hard work, Youth Rebuild and Supervisor, Donald Allen Jr!

The young volunteers from Youth Rebuild also helped with a

home owned by Ms. Ollie, a 90 year old resident of Indian Village.  This project was a joint effort, started by volunteers from google, and finished by Youth Rebuild.  The project was made possible by the Starbucks Coast Renewal Grant Project.  Check out the amazing before and after photos of Ms. Ollie's home.  Thanks to everyone who helped with the  transformation of this home!
