LLT map-LCIA meeting

In the Fall of 2008, the Beacon of Hope Resource Center and the University of New Orleans-Department of Planning & Urban Studies launched the Beacon of Hope/University of New Orleans Community Recovery Project (BUCRP). The primary goal of the BUCRP is to provide training to support the collection, management and reporting of community-led surveys in order to document the recovery of New Orleans, Louisiana with the use of the ArcGIS mapping. GIS has allowed the BUCRP team to expedite the production of Neighborhood Block Captain maps and collection of property images by volunteers. The integration of the survey data and images along with parcel information provides the community, neighborhood planners and investors with the current state of property recovery and return rates. BUCRP has obtained the site-specific data for the Louisiana Land Trust (Road Home) properties and the New Orleans Redevelopment Authority - Lot Next Door. With the assistance of the Regional Planning Commission, the BUCRP was able to present this integrated neighborhood data at the Lakeview Civic Improvement Association and Gentilly Civic Improvement Association meetings in March 2009. Citizen Planners are now able to identify by specific street location the location and ownership of dwellings in their community. The map above, and a similar city-wide map, will be available for public use on the Beacon of Hope website and the BUCRP web page.
