Leading the way home, Beacon of Hope provides a model for recovery in neighborhoods devastated by Hurricane Katrina, as well as other areas affected by disaster.  Encouraging civic action, fostering repopulation, providing information and resources is the foundation on which we build and grow.  Beacon of Hope empowers residents to facilitate their own recovery while providing a hub of resident driven activities and a safe environment to create the synergy essential for restoring viable neighborhoods and improve the overall quality of life for residents

Beacon of Hope has hosted over 9,000 volunteers since its creation in early 2006, providing needed resources and rebuilding neighborhoods throughout the city of New Orleans.  Beacon has created a successful model that is now being implemented in Cedar rapids, Iowa.  We are currently working to develop a program using this model in Bridge City, Texas!

Residential driven surveys and regular updates are essential to neighborhood recovery. The Beacon of Hope and University of New Orleans will partner to implement neighorhood surveys throughout the Gentilly neighborhoods. Many out of state universities have completed property surveys but have never turned data over to residents to continue monitoring progress.
