 | CODA

Karen Hohler attended the CODA (Craft Organization Development Association) Conference this week during the NYIGF (New York International Gift Fair).  The topic of the conference was Recrafting Organizations in Changing Times which focused on strategic planning, think tanks, and an update on American Craft Week by ACW co-chair Diane Sulg.   It was a great opportunity to meet the heads of other organizations across the country who are doing amazing work within their communities whether local, regional or national.  If you are interested in learning more about strategic planning for your business, contact Karen at kshohler@gmail.com .  She will share with you the handouts from the meeting and the major points of the discussion. |
 | CRAFT and NYIGF Partner to Build Wholesale Craft Buying   The board of CRAFT has continued to talk about ways in which CRAFT can support and strengthen the craft industry.  You know this is the on-going focus of American Craft Week.  With ACW as the focus of the CRAFT booth at NYIGF, it was a natural leap to work at how CRAFT could impact the growth of craft wholesale buying at the show itself.  Maud Boleman and Karen Hohler of CRAFT's board met with Christian Falkenberg, Show Director; Liz Beauregard, Director of Handmade; and Cathy Steele, PR Consultant.
They proposed to NY Gift a program to better define and highlight American handmade in the program book, on-line and at the show itself.   This will make it easier for buyers to find American handmade artists.  Next they suggested an educational program to encourage non- craft stores to begin to add handmade into their product mix. They see this as having the potential to expand the craft sales dramatically at the show.  The staff of NYIGF agreed and are anxious to work with CRAFT.
Are you as excited as the board is and interested in helping to develop this program?  Email, kshohler@gmail.com.  We can use your help. |
