Facebook, EdgeRank, and the impact is has on your fan page
from The 3/50 Project and AlwaysUpward.com
Facebook page admins for small businesses recently got one heck of a shock. The percentage of fans reached by their posts is now visible within moments of publishing...and the percentage is infinitesimally small. Those with more than 400 fans are only averaging a paltry 6%-12% per post.
Adding insult to injury, a new "Promote" button debuted shortly after, offering pay-to-post options, for those wanting to reach more of their fans. Costs are based on the size of your fan base; the more popular the page, the higher the price tag...which few of us can afford.
Do fans know this is happening? Unlikely. All they know is that you're not showing up in their newsfeeds. Out of sight, out of mind. Pages they "liked" are disappearing from view, fast.
How is this possible?
Facebook uses an algorithm program called EdgeRank to determine the value of both posts -and- pages. Fans who continually visit your page, share your posts, "like" your posts, and comment on posts, will (most likely) continue to see you in their newsfeeds. Fans who don't (the majority, unless you cater to ber-heavy Facebook users), won't. You're fading---or worse, have already faded---from view.
What's the solution? AlwaysUpward.com created two downloadable info packets to help you retain your Facebook audience (totally free, and completely sharable):
For FB Page Admins: How to Improve Post Visibility A straightforward solution that plays by EdgeRank's rules to retain current (and improve future) audience retention For Fans: How to Avoid Missing Facebook Page Posts A simple paint-by-numbers approach to brings beloved page posts back to their home screen (something great to share with your fans, increasing the odds you remain on their radar)
