Christmas ShpppingHappy Holidays from the CRAFT Board

Here's wishing you all a fantastic selling season.  Stores will become bare and artists will need to rush into studios to produce more.  What could be better!

See you all at the upcoming wholesale shows in January and February.

Break a leg (except for Janet Francoeur of Carolina Creations who took it a bit too literally!).

Jon & Suzanne Green
Chesnik Scopes

Janice & Ray Chesnik started Chesnik Scopes in 1980, and Janice's son, Jon Greene, joined them in 1990, producing a full line of brass- and chrome-plated, wheeled kaleidoscopes known for their spectacular "mandalas" or interior images. In 2007, Jon took control of the business, creating scopes for 120+ wholesale accounts located throughout the U.S., Canada and Japan, and now corporate accounts. The creativity of Janice and Ray is still present through the tiny Millefiore glass pieces featured in the 'Fiesta' wheels, which they create via an amazing glass bundling process. Each scope is signed and dated by Jon, and comes with its own wooden base or pedestal. Ultra-clear and vivid optics are produced by using highest quality front-surface mirrors and a magnifying lens. A high-end metal-plating finish is used so none of the metal pieces will ever tarnish.

These dazzling kaleidoscopes are "interactive art", making ideal gifts for men as well as women, suitable for weddings or any occasion. They provide the recipient with many years of viewing enjoyment. Collectors worldwide find them to be finest wheeled scopes made, and they are among the best-selling scopes on the market. Cape Cod Life Magazine featured Jon's artistry in "The Scope of Innovation" in the December 2010 issue.

GETTING PUBLICITY THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

ABC World News continues to show segments focusing on Made in America, including this one. Because of these segments, I decided to see if I could get some publicity on my local ABC station. It was easier than I thought it would be.

All it took was one short (about 5 sentance) email to a local reporter. I went to the local stations website, picked a reporter that does a lot of local feature stories and sent him an email explaining that I had a store full of Made in America. I heard back from him within 48 hours and soon they were in my store filming. I also put them in contact with a local studio I carry.

The result was this segment, which aired two days before Thanksgiving. Since the segment aired, I have heard from multiple customers, both new & old, who saw it.

Take a chance. Send an introductory email. And if you end up with a news segment, make sure you send us a link to share.
