GIFTED RETAILERS

Gifts & Decorative Accessories is compiling information for its annual Gifted Retailers feature.

This feature, publishing in the

November 2011 issue, will

present vital statistics on

independent gift retailers

across the U.S. It is not a

ranking and is not based on

sales volume. Instead, we are

 striving to present 25 retailers

 that are "gifted," meaning they

are successful and creative

 within their market. All sales

figures will be published as Gifts

 & Decorative Accessories

market research estimates.

Please complete your form

through this link by Friday,

 August 19, 2011.

CRAFT Needs Your Help

from Susan Shapiro, Art and Soul Gifts

As chairperson of the Membership Committee, I've been asked to develop and implement strategies that will attract new members to CRAFT and maintain/sustain our current membership.  I need help to accomplish this.  I'm looking for folks willing to join the membership committee - anyone who can think creatively (wow; that encompasses all of us!) about ways to encourage craft business owners and artists to join CRAFT and help this organization achieve its goals (promoting the sale of fine craft and art and supporting those who create and sell American craft).  I anticipate that the committee initially will meet one hour monthly via telephone conference call to discuss strategies and a work plan. We also will need to follow-up by e-mail or telephone on leads generated at shows and conferences.

In order to determine what attracts people to join CRAFT, outreach to current members of CRAFT may yield important information for planning.  Members of this committee, the board of directors, and other interested individuals may be asked to call 10 - 15 CRAFT members over a two month period to ascertain why they joined CRAFT, why they maintain their membership, and what else CRAFT can do to further support them.

Please call me at (401) 461-4511 [store] OR (401) 263-7876 [cell], or send an e-mail to me at susan@artandsoulgifts.com if you are interested in working on the membership committee, or in working on the survey of current members.

If membership doesn't interest you, there are many other areas in which you can help CRAFT, such as social media marketing, website maintenance, booth coverage, team coordinators, and fiscal management.  Contact Karen Hohler at  kshohler@gmail.com or 617-571-5267 to learn more about these needs and the contact person for each area.

Special Offers for CRAFT Members at NYIGF - How to Redeem

We had previously sent you a communication that gave you some incorrect information on how to redeem two special offers for CRAFT Members at NYIGF. Please accept the apologies of NYIGF for any inconvenience this caused. Use the following instructions to redeem these offers.

  • Free NYIGF badge : Register for free ($50 value) with promotion code "FGI." A step-by-step guide follows:
    • Find the registration page: You can do this in two different ways...
    • Choose Option 1 or Option 2
      • Option 1 is for those who have attended NYIGF before
      • Option 2 is for those who are brand new to NYIGF
    • This begins the Registration Process. You can see on the top of the page that there are six steps to this process. In Step 1, at the bottom of the section titled "Name/Badge Information" there is a space for a Promotional Code. Enter "FGI" here and you will receive a Free NYIGF badge.

Free seminar admission : Get one free ticket ($20 value), to one NYIGF's myriad educational sessions* addressing color and product trends, sustainability and retail strategies. Instead of entering a promotional code while you are registering, email Julia Dexter (Julia@cathysteelassociates.com ) and Julia will sign you up for a complimentary $20 seminar of your choice.

NYIGF - CRAFT Power Hours

These particular "Power Hours" are held free at the front of the new Designer/Maker building.  They are on a first come, first served basis.  The topics and presenters are strong...CRAFT's best educational offerings this year.  Any craft retailer or artist should look over the list and make every effort to attend...at least one.
