Creative Ideas Abound as Galleries Prepare for A Season for CERF+ 2011

Who could forget "Cash for Clunkers?" Well now C.R.A.F.T.'s very own board member Maud Boleman is planning the fall launch of " Fine American Handmade Craft for Clinkers" as part of A Season for CERF+ 2011.  Visitors can go to her Black Mountain Studio in Swannanoa, NC, bearing an old mug, and for a $10 donation to CERF+, trade it in for a new artist-made mug! Old mugs will be donated to the Veterans Association. "But wait, it gets better" says Maud. To top it off, a photograph of the donor holding both their old and new mug will be taken (a new twist to "mug shots") and the pictures will be posted to Facebook where visitors to can vote for their favorite photo and the winners will receive a prize. The voting will coincide with American Craft Week, October 7 - 16, 2011. How's this for a fun project?

For many years now, Maud Boleman has been involved in CERF+'s annual fundraiser, A Season for CERF+, generously raising funds for CERF+ so that it in turn can help safeguard and sustain the careers of craft artists around the nation. She knows what it means for an artist's world to be turned upside down by a personal disaster. In 2009 a fire destroyed much of their ceramics gallery.

If you are inspired by Black Mountain Studio's fundraising idea, consider coming up with something of your own or choose from CERF+'s list of ideas. Sign up for A Season for CERF+ 2011 today and support the craft artists who make your business unique, vibrant, unforgettable and loved by your customers. Your support of CERF+ tells the craft artists you buy from that you care about their well being.  Join American Craft Week too and help spread the word about American made craft to your community.
