American Craft Week and Philly
By Karen Hohler, CRAFT President

The excitement at BMAC in Philly was electric.  Spirits dampened by weather, travel struggles and few buyers revived around the talk about American Craft Week.  We could literally see eyes brighten, sagging shoulders raise and enthusiasm build as artists and buyers began to grasp the potential power American Craft Week will have for our industry.  They saw almost instantly that the first week of October can raise the national consciousness about American craft, create understanding about its value and translate into increased sales that will support our artistic livelihoods.

Participate in October.  Sign up and say that you will add your voice to the celebration.  What can you do?  That's bounded only by your imagination.  It can be a letter to the editor of your local newspaper, opening your studio, organizing a gallery walk, taking art into the schools, getting your governor to declare American Craft Week.  Go to Get Involved on our American Craft Week web site.  Email info@AmericanCraftWeek.com that you plan to participate (please include Gallery/Studio name, city & state and web address).  Don't worry if you don't know what you want to do yet.  You'll figure it out.  Just get your name up there and help build the excitement.

Coming in April there will be support materials available such as a logo, a banner and PR materials.  Watch for the announcement in It's Friday when they are ready.
We are all creative people to be able to do what we do day in and day out.  I know you will come up with some incredible thoughts for celebrating American Craft Week.

Membership Drive in Philly
We had our most successful membership drive ever of any wholesale show this week at BMAC.  We increased CRAFT membership by 10%!!  Thank you everyone who helped distribute information, talk to potential members and man the CRAFT booth.  It was an inspiring response.

Constant Contact - New Feature

Constant Contact has designed a new application that allows you to put a Join My Mailing List tab right on your Facebook Page. It's fairly simple to do and I added it to my gallery page in a matter of minutes. To try it out for yourself, follow these insturctions.
