Dear Hands On Volunteer,
Welcome to the February edition of the Hands On Asheville-Buncombe e-newsletter. Don't let the cold and snow keep you from getting out and exploring fun and meaningful service opportunities this month. Consider joining one of these Hands On managed projects that are sure to warm you inside & out.
Draft Stoppers Help keep someone's home warm this winter by making "draft stoppers" (stuffed and decorated fabric tubes that are placed at the bottom of a door). Draft-stoppers will be distributed to individuals and families served by Meals On Wheels, Community Action Opportunities, and Council on Aging. This project is geared toward kids 5-12 years old. Sign up!
Bonding Blankets Help make "lovies" for premature babies served by Mission Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. A lovie is a tiny blanket that a new mother sleeps with for several nights so it acquires her scent. The lovie is then placed in the incubator with the newborn so that the baby can start bonding with the mother while he/she is in the hospital. Sign up!
Knit-n-Give Are you looking for an excuse to knit or crochet on a Sunday afternoon? Look no further! Help make hats to be given to newborns served by the Buncombe County Health Center's Community Health Program. These hand-knitted hats are treasured by the client families and help provide incentive to keep important appointments with Community Health Nurses. Sign up!
Knit-n-Give at Home Can't make it to Knit-n-Give, or the project is full? Why not make baby hats at home! This is a great project to do with friends, family, or simply on your own. Find out more.

| 2-1-1 Directory of Community Services |
United Way's 2-1-1 of WNC has created a printed directory of community services in Buncombe County to make it easier for people who need help to get information about local services. The directory is a listing of over 1000 nonprofit, government and community programs. Services include housing, food, medicine, transportation, support groups, money management, legal assistance, counseling, health care, and more!
The cost is $30 per book. Orders of quantities of 10 or more receive a $5 discount per book. Books are available for purchase Monday-Friday (8:30am-5:00pm) at the United Way building at 50 S. French Broad Ave., Asheville. You may also email 211info@unitedwayabc.org or call Rachael Nygaard at 239-1037 to arrange shipping.
