Dear Friends,
Thank you for helping us have a wonderful year! With your help, we have hosted more than 5,000 guests from around the world (over 12,000 hostel overnights), 18 free educational travel classes for the community, and 7 cultural kitchen programs for middle and high school students. Additionally we have been able to expand our programming into San Antonio, roll out a new travel scholarship program for our region, expand the number of beds in the Austin hostel to 48, and continue to grow the University of Texas HI travel club. We could not do all of this without your generous support! We look forward to continuing the journey and sharing the hostelling mission throughout 2010 and the years to come.

In this newsletter you'll meet our travel scholarship winners, learn ways that you can get involved and read about events we've had. Thank you for reading and please forward to your friends. Have a wonderful and safe holiday season.

Happy Travels,
Amy Daley
Executive Director

Cultural Kitchen Celebrates Australian Cuisine
girl scouts
Girl Scout Troop 1309 from San Marcos had an opportunity to participate in our Cultural Kitchen program last weekend. They studied Australian culture, prepared an Australian feast and entertained guests with jokes and songs. It was a big hit! An Australian guest said it reminded her of home. The girls then had their first opportunity to spend the night in a hostel.

National Massage Week at the hostel
massage
As part of National Massage Week during the last week of October, we welcomed a group of professional massage therapists from the American Massage Therapy Association. They provided free chair massage for guest and staff. Needless to say our guests were thrilled to have some of their traveling and backpacking knots worked through. Thanks so much to Welcome Touch Massage and crew for offering this to our guests and staff.

If you are a federal, state, Travis County or City of Austin employee you can contribute to our council through your workplace giving campaign. We greatly appreciate the continued support of our donors that give through their workplace to ensure our success.

Volunteer
- We have a variety of fun and rewarding volunteer opportunities. A few areas where volunteers help us fulfill our mission include: hosting events for hostel guests, teaching travel classes, serving on the board of directors, and facilitating Cultural Kitchen events.

Donations
- One of the ways that we are able to provide inexpensive and safe accommodation is through the support of our community. We want to thank everyone that has contributed in-kind donations that make our hostel so special. He is our current wish list:
