A LETTER FROM THE AJF BOARD CHAIR

Greetings!
Ted Noten for AJF

Ted Noten Turbo Princess
Ted Noten Little Princess Worn

This month the entire work force at AJF has been deployed to concentrate on the new website and so our attention has been diverted. But soon you will get another newsletter explaining all the wonders of the new website which we think will give you easy access to a rich archive of material. However, we didn't want to deprive you of the pressing news of the day so we put together this regular monthly update for your enjoyment.

We have fantastic news! AJF has commissioned Dutch jeweler Ted Noten to create a limited edition pin for us. Anyone who joins AJF or renews during the next 12 months will receive this pin as an exclusive benefit. This is the second in a series of annual collectible pins created by artists exclusively for Art Jewelry Forum. US jewelry maker Arthur Hash designed the first AJF pin, offered this past year.

Noten's pin design for AJF, "Little Princess," was inspired by a conceptual piece he designed in 1995 that gained him international notoriety-"The Turbo Princess," a pendant featuring a black mouse wearing a pearl necklace encased in acrylic.  The 2012 pin for AJF features a white mouse and comes in a snazzy gold bag. How can you resist?

Please note the new additions to the Exclusively for You section, which we hope you will take advantage of and enjoy.

Hope to see you at one of our events soon,

Susan Cummins

Louise Smit 25th Anniversary25 YEARS OF GALERIE LOUISE SMIT
by Kerianne Quick
On the 25th anniversary of the opening of her gallery, Louise Smit passed the baton to collaborator Monika Zampa. In her speech given on the occasion of the opening reception for the show 25 Year Anniversary of Galerie Louise Smit, Louise recounted some the gallery's accomplishments since its humble beginnings in 1986, including the first fax machine in Amsterdam, imported from New York City. Mia MaljojokiMIA MALJOJOKI: EXPLOSIVE: FROZEN FIREWORKS
by Ward Schrijver
For the first time Mia Maljojoki's exuberant jewellery was presented at Galerie Rob Koudijs Amsterdam in a solo exhibition. From the moment the pieces were layed out, passers-by were drawn to the strong colours and bold shapes. 'Maybe' or 'perhaps' are no options with Maljojoki's pieces: it is probably the most outspoken work you can find in the contemporary jewellery field today and you either love it or hate it. RUUDT PETERS: CORPUS
by Kerianne Quick

Specters shift quietly, hovering over the polished concrete floor of Galerie Rob Koudijs. The black shrouds hang from simple pin steel structures, forming the shoulders of the ghosts floating around you. From these shoulders hang Ruudt Peters new body of work entitled Corpus. Click to read more.

LINEAR CELEBRATION
Aaron Faber Gallery Director Patricia Kiley Faber talks about the genesis of their new show.

The inspiration for the current 'In Line' exhibition at Aaron Faber Gallery came from a superb exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art last year that I had the good fortune to see. The MOMA show, titled "On Line: Drawing Through the Twentieth Century" and curated by Connie Butler and Catherine de Zegher, brought its audience a fresh view of line. Click to read more.

Anja EichlerFRESH TALENT - ANJA EICHLER

By Kerianne Quick

"The inspiration for my work comes out of the material itself. I love its outside surface with its wrinkles that remind me of a coral when I see it or, once I touch it, of an elephant skin. I also love its inside material, the wool, especially because of its contrast to the latex on the outside."  Most people wouldn't give a second look to the material that Anja Eichler is fondly referring to.
