What's Up @ The Beadles |
Classes, Bead Show, Contest & More! April 2009, #2 |
|
Greetings, Beady Friends!
I hope you've had some time to drive around and see that spring has arrived in all her floral glory - dogwoods, redbuds, jonquils, forsythia. My own backyard was filled with the lovely scent of Burkwood Viburnum for a couple weeks. Heavenly.
As most of you know, I'll be out the shop for about 2 months undergoing medical treatment. I'm a bit scared (a whole lot scared, truth be told), but one thing has really been brought home to me. I love our shop and our customers. When I walk in the door of the Beadles and switch the lights on, it lights up ME. When a customer comes in and asks "Do we have crimp covers" (or something similar), it makes me all warm and fuzzy. The customer using the term WE tells me that our customers feel a sense of ownership in the Beadles. That, dear friends, makes it all worthwhile.
I am also very aware of how special my coworkers are. They are enthusiastically assuming more responsibility to make sure things run smoothly in my absence. I wouldn't be at all surprised if some things don't go a lot smoother!
One important change in the staffing area is that Madeline Pendergrass is going to be coordinating our class schedule. For the time being, you'll have to rely on the website calendar for class info. There won't be pictures, but we have samples at the shop. Classes are a great way to learn a new technique and to make new friends. We've got the classes posted for April on the shop's website. We'll get May's classes on the calendar in the next coupld days.
Read on for news about the third annual Tulsa Bead Blast and a couple non-beading items of possible interest.
Happy Beading Spring,

Hind Sight
I imagine there are few businesses that send out a newsletter discussing the state of the owner's backside. But, we've never been accused of being normal.
I've now had my PET scan and will meet with my radiologist and oncologist later this week to finalize treatment regimen based on what the PET scan found. Current plans are 6 weeks of daily radiation with chemo during weeks 1 and 5.
It's my understanding that due to the location of the cancer, the treatment is pretty intense and I shouldn't plan on being able to do much. Then, about 2 weeks after the end of treatment, I should be feeling better. So I expect to be back at the shop around the June 10th or so. I'm really hoping that I'll be able to get in periodically even if only for short periods. I'm suffering separation anxiety already.
What can you do to help? Keep supporting the shop as you always have, send me an email every once in a while if you'd like, AND, MOST IMPORTANTLY, please get regular rectal exams. | |

Thank your customer, tell them how valuable they are to you, but don't go overboard. Insincerity is easy to spot.
Sincerely,
Beadles
