The Language of Health Care

 "It's a great relief to know that I don't have to feel isolated because I don't speak a particular language."  This is what Maria Guillén had to say about working with a medical interpreter during her many interactions with her son's care-givers at Franciscan Hospital for Children over the years.

For Maria, whose primarily language is Spanish, having the opportunity to speak to care-givers through an interpreter has been a tremendous help.

The Child Life Department kicked off Child Life Month this March by hosting a "Teddy Bear Clinic" in the Playroom on the Pulmonary Rehabilitation Unit on March 11th.   The "Teddy Bear Clinic" is designed to be a therapeutic yet enjoyable process, giving the children a chance to be the doctor for the day!
