This Thursday brings us back to to The Red Lion for a showcase with some of the finest female voices at the Jam (including both of last year's Jammy co-winners), a triple appearance by the reigning Jammer Of The Year, and other earthly delights. Check out some unplugged Americana from two-thirds of the Orchid Thieves (Lisa Mowry, Fernando Menendez, Tony Novarro, and yours truly; the allegedly Alt/Country Cropduster (Ira Abel, Chip Fournier, Russell Makowsky, Perry Parker), Jazz 'n' Funk jammers Lodestar (Chuck Bernklau, Ross Brooks, Carlos Cabrales, Jeff Mucciolo, Phil LaRussa), classic and contemporary Soul from Jackie (Jackie Schwartz, Rich Mansour, Tony Novarro, K Mita, Taka Shimizu); blues/funk/rock from Sand Storm (Bob Adleman, Phil Dunn, Sandra Lagerstrom, Fernando
Menendez, Tony Novarro); and the self-proclaimed "world's
second greatest Rolling Stones show"- The Rolling Bones (Ted Ames, Greg Manning, George Majoros, Charlie Mangano,
Scott McCoy, Guy Villano, Dave Stancavish, Sandra Lagerstrom). And you never know what else could happen: Our last Red Lion show had amorous adventures in the handicap bathroom as well as a spectacular audience-member wardrobe malfunction. Rock and Roll!

Due to overwhelming demand, we have no choice but to add a second room to the popular Monday night Patty Murray-hosted Newbie Jam, effective immediately. It's a good thing we'll be opening a fourth studio in a couple of weeks.
With room for 400+ people, Rebel is just a tad too big for regular monthly showcases. But it's just perfect for special events like 40th Birthday Parties (several Jam members are already making plans), Bar Mitzvahs, and perhaps even the 15th Annual Jammy Awards. I'm just saying.

Two bits of wisdom gleaned from recent performances:
1. If you need to look at your instrument while singing, move your eyes, not your head. Turning your head makes it slightly more difficult to sing, and causes problems with respect to the microphone. At best, you'll be off axis (at an angle to the microphone), which reduces both volume and high-frequency response. At worst, you'll be off-mic (inaudible).
2. When a performer tells me "I couldn't hear [X]" as they leave a stage, I always ask: "did you tell the Soundman?" Almost invariably the answer is "no." At the risk of repeating myself ad nauseum: If you want more or less of something in the mix, you have to (politely) ask for it. You may have to ask for it several times. And you may not even get it despite multiple requests. But you are guaranteed to remain unsatisfied if you don't speak up.

Mark, a drummer, is interested in an REM tribute band focusing on their first two
albums. Seeks guitarist, bass, piano and singer (unless one of the other three sings).
