Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Dave Sasscer writes and plays music that fuses a laid-back island vibe and multilingual expression with more traditional singer/songwriter and rock elements to create a sunny stew that's at once exotic and accessible. Dig in, mon.
DJ: Give us a quick musical bio. DS: I started writing songs in the 5th grade (actually, re-writing other people's songs but I didn't know it at the time). I started playing guitar at 17, which is when I started to figure things out. I'm still trying to figure them out today.
DJ: Tell us all about your new CD. DS: Quiet Mind (on the Roomful of Sky label) is incredibly exciting for me because it really captures
exactly where I am at musically at this moment. Its got some rockin'
tunes, some ballads, some Reggae, some humor and it closes with a
grooving dose of Rhythmic Theology. I just hope other people enjoy it
as much as I do.
DJ: Any special plans for the Release Party? DS: You know, dancin', fightin', f&@k!n'...the usual. And Go Go Girls!
DJ: What's next for DS&TMCJ? DS: Next we plan to get out and promote the album. We're gonna hit up radio,
TV, Movies, etc. If anyone wants to help or has any contacts, please
get in touch with me immediately!
DJ: Any advice for the newbies?
DS: Learn other people's songs. Take them apart and figure out how they
work. Then go away and do it your own way. And make sure you're having
a good time.
Dave Sasscer & The Mojo Conga Jam celebrate the release of Quiet Mind this Thursday at 10:30 pm, with a headlining performance at Rebel.
