Our final showcase of Summer happens this Thursday at The Cutting Room, with the sassy Chuck & Sue Rock (Keny Ashby, Phil Dunn, Chuck Montgomery, Sue Scarlett), the debut of original act Spear & Magic Helmet (Travis Lee, Ethan Rosenblatt, Jamess "Dutch" Uyterlinde), the grunge/DMB/original melànge that is Gremmie's Noisebucket (Carlos Cabrales, Mike Marinello, Mattt Moore, Pete Parella), radio-friendly fare from Princess Rainbow & the Crown Victorians (Minx, John Carucci, Phil Dunn, Jim Lippman subbing for Tyler Land, Grace Millo, Guy Villano), and classic-to-modern pop from debutantes SOL (Ed Howe, Mirja Krause, Dave Kaminsky, Jim Lippman, Rich Oshinsky).

We're experiencing technical difficulties that are preventing us from updating our website. We expect to have the situation resolved shortly. Like, this week.
 People

This week, I chatted with Her Royal Highness Princess Rainbow (a/k/a Minx).

Minx & Jon BonjoviDJ: When are we going to hear some Minx originals?
PR: Funny you should ask, a lot of people have been asking me that question lately, perhaps I need to put some energy that way. I had an original band for 9 years, amanda's waiting. We self-released 3 CDs. That was one of the greatest experiences I ever had musically, we were so incredibly dedicated, but I kinda got  burned out from wearing 12 different hats - promoter, website designer, booking agent, publicist etc, It was hard to do it all and keep a day job.

JMG: Speaking of, what is your day gig?
PR: I'm a teacher/trainer and a real estate investor/note broker.

DJ: What do you look for in bandmates?
PR: Definitely chemistry which seems to come from a mutual respect for each other. I love a good sense of humor... when we can laugh at ourselves and each other without any judgement, life is good! I also expect that we all do our part in learning songs and showing up. When we are all on the same page with that, things just flow and it's inspiring. I am blessed to have the most awesome band- John Carrucci is my guitar God, he makes me feel like a Goddess, lol. I have played with him on and off for wow...almost 20 years? Phil Dunn is an awesome bass player and an amazing person! Gracie and I having been harmonizing and playing together for many many years, she is like family to me and an amazing talent of her own. Tyler is a powerful player with a great voice and Guy is the cherry on top, also a great player and singer. It's so refreshing to have a whole band of singers that can really sing, it takes it to another level. All the musicians I've worked with from the Jam are awesome, I love them all: Rich O, David Kaminsky, Mike Boris, Jim Lippman.

DJ: Is there a musical dream project that you've yet to undertake?
I would really love to so something incredibly dynamic in a singer-songwriter vein like Shawn Colvin or Jonatha Brooke. I love doing the rock stuff cause it comes natural to me, but their music is so personal and I love the vulnerability that they project. It's a whole different vibe, the songs I have written are definitely more in that vein than rock.

DJ: Any words of wisdom for those new to our little scene?
PR: There are plenty of great musicians to connect with and really fun venues. The gigs are always something I look forward to, the energy is so supportive.

DJ: Tell us something that no one knows about Minx.
PR: I am going to be a multi, multi millionaire so I can help others live their dream, whatever that may be...

 Advice

In the palm of my handGreat performers know how to spice things up - by constantly changing their setlist, adding special guest appearances, re-arranging songs and/or altering instrumention. Don't be those guys who are still hacking out the same tunes the same way they were playing 'em five years ago. It doesn't have to be radical - little things can often  take the familiar and make it fresh. Both you and your audience benefit from variety, so start thinking about adding some zip to your next gig.
