It's official: By popular demand, we'll be opening a fourth studio (which we intend to call "Studio 4") before the end of August. Our newest room will be equipped much like Studio 3 in terms of PA and backline gear, but will be slightly larger (abpproximately 11' x 12.5'). We haven't quite figured out how to pay for the additional equipment and soundproofing, so if you'd like to invest in the Jam (either monetarily or by contribution in kind), please get in touch.
In other real estate-related news, our roof deck is being resurfaced imminently. As construction is always subject to the vaguest of vagueries, you may be prohibited from using the roof (so as not to drag tar onto our carpets) over the next few days. We apologize for any inconvenience.

In the Jam's relatively short Times Square incarnation, our studios have been used not just for rehearsals and jam sessions, but for photo shoots, social networking events, and now...martial arts practice. Over the last few weeks several of us have been testing out our Brazilian Jiu Jitsu skills (or lack thereof) on our new high-density foam mats. If anyone else is interested in rolling, a mat-equipped room is $30 for an hour-and-a-half daytime (until 5 pm) session.

Although we recently succeeded in getting a nice tone of the very shallow Traps kick drum in Studio 3, keeping it that way proved more difficult. Apparently the drum's lack of depth puts great pressure on the front head, causing it to slacken very quickly. The solution was an Evans EMAD Resonant Head which features a tuned port - as well as several different foam dampening rings one can use to quickly and easily tailor the sonic response. Volia!
