Singer/guitarist/part-time Woodstock resident (and full-time Beatles freak) Elliot Hurwitz has alot going on. I caught up with him over the weekend.
DJ: What's your day gig? EH: Chief Commercial Counsel, Chicago Title Insurance Company. DJ: Tell the folks about your current musical projects. EH: Just did a Bed Breakers gig up in Woodstock. All day; outdoors. Hope to do a Jam showcase with Hurwitz & Sons in the fall. Also, starting work on a new project called Mofos (i didn't pick the name). No Mersey largely on summer holiday after this week.
DJ: What do you look for in bandmates? EH: For me, it's all about having a good time. I look for players that are good listeners.
DJ: As a performer, you're always prepared, ready for anything, never flustered. What's your secret? EH: First, find great players who are willing to be in your band. Once you're out there, you have to do the necessary to get the song across - like singing the guitar solo if the lead player's power goes off.
DJ: What's your typical gear setup? EH: Strictly plug & play. [translation: A Strat straight into any small tube combo]
DJ: Any advice for those just getting involved in the program? EH: Attend open jams as often as possible, learn tons of new songs and have a great time.
DJ: Tell us something that no one knows about Elliot. EH: First performed "She Loves You" in the dining room at Camp Derry in Londonderry, Vermont in 1964, and "Aunt Thelma" loved it.
Elliot fronts No Mersey this Thursday (7/26) at The Cutting Room at 10:30 pm.

At the brink of extinction after forfeiting their last 2 games, the Jammers lost to the Tim Mullins All Stars 4-1 on July 5th. Team captain Tony Novarro was able to round up enough subs to keep the Jam spirit alive. The Jammers, aided by strong defensive plays by Jeff Davis and Valerie (aka Planet Girl), kept the game close. The August 9 and 16th tournament games have been canceled as the Jammers did not qualify this year. Our next game will be August 21.
