This past week was a fortunate one for Jam NYC bands, with performances by Shoot The Messenger, The Obscure Blues Band, Complicated Lady, Newspaper Taxis, and Gremmie's Noisebucket at our Cutting Room showcase on Thursday AND apperances by No Mersey and Dueling Elvis at the 13th annual Taste Of Tribeca Food Festival on Saturday. Both events were well attended, despite inclement weather on Saturday. Notes: Everyone seems to love both playing and attending shows at Cutting Room, so we're scheduling additional showcases for July and August. Taste Of Tribeca is an event near and dear to our hearts - not just because it involves food and music - but because the proceeds go directly to the arts programs of public schools. This week, the Jam lends a hand to a Battle of the Bands benefit for the child-focused HGI Foundation. If you're a member of the Jam, you're helping give back too. It's just Carlito's way.

Advice
|
If you need/want/have to join a band, we're here to help you find
people to play with, and we have a number of time-tested methods:
Jam Sessions
- If you come to enough of our weekly jam sessions, eventually you'll
meet someone with whom you click. Don't be shy: Tell them you enjoyed playing
with them and that you'd like to do it again. Ask how you can get in touch with
them. If you'd prefer, you can drop us an email to forward to him/her.
Bulletin Board
- We maintain a free electronic bulletin board that collects the Personal ads you see in our weekly Bulletin. Check the member
postings and send in a response. If nothing floats your boat, think about what
you'd like to do and send in a posting (or several) of your own. For every
person posting, there are probably 10-20 people just lurking (who never post).
It's a bit like fishing - you'll never know what's out there until you throw out
a line.
Consultation
- Stop by the desk and talk to us about the project you'd like to put
together. You aren't bothering us, it's what we do. We'll use our our database,
experience, and knowledge to work in finding compatible musicians. The Jam is always
referring players to each other.
Showcases - Come to our shows,
enjoy the music, and meet your fellow Jammers. And while the public pays to get
in, Members just say "I'm on the Guest List"! While luck plays some part in finding a good relationship, being active and persistant in your search are far more important. And don't forget that we're here to help you make it happen. |
