This Thursday night (5/17) we present our second showcase at The Cutting Room, with original songs from an unplugged Shoot The Messenger (Rob Frail, Tom Connolly), roots music by The Obscure Blues Band (Jac Cheairs, Thomas Goodman, Diane "Big D" Jackson, Fred Kolikoff, Seth Ullman), feminine- yet-fangy fare from Complicated Lady (Elena Belan, Carlos Cabrales, Heidi Sadowsky, Jeff Mucciolo), two-time Jammy Award-winning Beatles tribute Newspaper Taxis (Brian August, Robert Brandow, Hank Goldsmith, Rod Granger, Kevin Murphy), and '90s rock + originals from Gremmie's Noisebucket (right: Carlos Cabrales, Mike Marinello, Matt Moore, Pete Parella).
And don't forget to get your eat on at the 14th annual Taste of Tribeca food festival this Saturday (5/19) from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm or so. With entertainment from our own No Mersey and Dueling Elvis, sampler plates from more than sixty Tribeca restaurants, and proceeds benefitting the Arts programs at local public schools, you can't go wrong. Tone freaks, rejoice: Studio 1 now features a legendary Marshall 1974X guitar amplifier. This 12" combo boasts 18 watts of EL-84 goodness, point-to-point hand-wiring, tube-driven tremelo, and a very special proprietary "aged" Celestion Greenback speaker. Originally made from 1965-1968, the 1974X amp is revered by tone connessiuers the world over who happilly shell out thousands of dollars for this unassuming small tube reissue. Accordingly, we've raised the price of Studio 1 to $34 an hour, and we think it's worth every penny. As if that weren't enough, we've also picked up a set of Angel R. Garcia all-wood bongos (which you may not even think about touching if you have rings on your fingers) a CryBaby Classic Wah Wah Pedal (that's the one enhanced with an Italian-made Fasel inductor), and an equalizer for the Lounge. Why all the investment? Because cool toys make for an awesome playground.

New bands often ask: "How often can we play?" It really depends: How often do people want to hear you? For most regulary-active groups, every two months is a good target. This allows you time to recharge, learn a bunch of new songs, and (hopefully) give your fans a break so that they'll return for every show.
"How do I get a later/better time slot?" is a little more complicated. Draw is one factor, but other issues come into play: You need a dynamic singer with excellent pitch, a high-energy performance with little-or-no downtime between songs, a set that changes substantially with each show, and no use of music stands or cheat sheets. In short, it requires professionalism. If that description doesn't fit, don't worry - there are earlier slots available.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the Gibson Les Paul Deluxe. Perhaps best identified by its unique "mini-humbucker" pickups, this model also features a mahogany body with a bound carved maple top, a mahogany neck with bound rosewood fingerboard, pearl trapezoid inlays, and nickel hardware. By special arrangement with our friends at Gibson Musical Instruments, we have this instrument on display and for use by Jam members until May 26. Ours is finished in traditional Bullion Gold, but it's also available in Wine Red (ala Pete Townshend) and Ebony.
