Lisa Christine MowryIt's was a sad day in Mudville when we received word that last year's  Jammy-co-winning Best Female Vocalist Lisa Christine Mowry would be unavailable for this year's event, and that The Orchid Thieves would therefore not be performing on April 13. Such misfortune turned out to be good news for The Obscure Blues Band (featuring 2004's Best Female Vocalist, Miss Diane Jackson), who received their invitation to the big show over the weekend. At press time, OBB was unable to confirm their appearance, so stay tuned for more potential drama. The Orchid Thieves (along with friends No Mersey and Dueling Elvis) will return to action at the annual Taste of Tribeca Food Festival on Saturday, May 19.

BrookeThis week I chatted with one of the Jam's newer members (the next wave, if you will), actress/singer/songstress Brooke Moriber.

JMG: How did you discover the Jam?
BM: I was putting together a band (of pros), and one of the guys mentioned that the Jam was "like Match.com for musicians."

JMG: I'm going to use that one. How has it worked out so far?
BM: I am so happy. When you introduced me to Tony (Novarro, guitar) I knew it would work. Then Barry (Rich, drums) and Carlos (Cabrales, bass) came on board and blew me away. It really is a team effort.

JMG: What acting gig are you best known for?
BM: Probably The Wild Party. I've been concentrating more on music lately, but I'd like to do more film and TV work, because Broadway doesn't pay that well.

JMG: Describe your sound.
BM: My influences are Heart, Pat Benatar, maybe a little Alanis. But the band has this great energy of its own - we feed off each other and that helps create the music.

JMG: Tell us something about Brooke that we'd never guess.
BM: You'll have to ask me that after I've had a few drinks!

The Brooke Moriber Band will appear at The Cutting Room on Thursday, March 29.
