The recent cold spell brought a bit of chaos to the Jam this week, as frozen pipes and repair work knocked out our building's waters supply on Monday and Thursday. I'm happy to report that everything is now back to normal, and we apologize for the inconvenience.
Because we've put on showcases the past two weeks in a row, we'll be taking a break until March 1, when we return to the Red Lion for a night of musical (and other) treats like the debuts of Toast and Moodswings, and return engagements by Princess Rainbow & The Crown Victorians, Sand Storm (pictured), No Mersey, and The Rolling Bones. Mark your calendars. |

This past Thursday's Knitting Factory showcase was a well-attended affair featuring the "Class of 2008": Liz Weber and Brooke Moriber (both debuting), and second-timers Fugue State and Soul Garden. Despite their greenness, they all performed as confidently as veterans Gremmie's Noisebucket (pictured). And self-assurance makes all the difference in the world. I'll take a confident band that makes a few mistakes over a tentative band that hits all the right notes, any day. |

Nothing says "flashy" quite like a huge, mirror-finish pickguard: Behold the Gibson SG Special New Century, an all-mahogany axe available in your choice of colors - as long as you pick black. A slim-taper neck capped with an ebony fretboard, classic alnico pickups, and chrome hardware will help you get the job done in style. And if you can't dazzle the audience with virtuosity, you can at least temporarily blind them. Available for members to try out at the Jam, through February 22.

"Electric bassist with around 35 years of experience (everything from jazz fusion to 60s rock to blues) wants to get back into the game but doen't know any of the current players. I'm looking to either join an established group that needs a bassist, or to form a band. I'm not too fussy about the kind of music, but my inclination is towards 60s/classic rock or jazz fusion. The most important thing to me is to play with really top level people. And I want to play out in clubs again."

The greatest individual honor at the annual Jammy Awards is that of Jammer of the Year, a title bestowed on the most selfless member of the Jam community. Almost by definition, the Jammer of the Year is someone who doesn't draw attention to him/herself, but instead is constantly making sure that others are involved and having fun. And we honor this contribution with a year's worth of free sessions at the Jam.
Join us on Friday, April 13, at Knitting Factory, for the 14th Annual Jammy Awards, featuring Both Hands, Cropduster, Dave Sasscer & The Mojo Conga Jam, Gremmie's Noisebucket, Limelight, Newspaper Taxis, The Orchid Thieves, Pink Flawd, The Rolling Bones, Sandstorm, and Square Feeet.
