TAF Academy's a School of Distinction

TAF Academy team

At TAF Academy, students learn math skills and how to apply them to real-life problems, how to approach projects as a member of a team and how to communicate what they’ve learned to others. Students who need extra support have a block of math tutoring during the school day. Intel recognized the middle school math program at TAF Academy by its innovation and results; we were up against some of the country’s top schools, and it turns out we’ve got a top school—and top teachers—too. That’s why we were named the winner in the middle school math category at an awards ceremony in Washington, D.C. this month.

Safeco Insurance Donates $1 Million

Bethaday Community Learning Space

We’re thrilled to announce that the Safeco Insurance Foundation has just committed $800,000 to TAF to help build the Bethaday Community Learning Space. This, combined with an earlier gift, brings Safeco’s investment in TAF to $1 million. “Every donation makes a difference, but we’re especially excited about the generosity of the Safeco Insurance Foundation,” said Trish Millines Dziko, our co-founder and executive director. “Employees of Safeco Insurance regularly volunteer their time with us, and the company has supported us financially and provided technical internships to our students since 1998. They’re true partners who are committed to our success and the success of the thousands of kids we’re helping.”

TAF Academy students at work

TAF Academy students head back to school this month, after a long summer spent touring colleges and STEM career campuses, learning about the environment in Costa Rica, practicing presentation skills at speech camp, getting a head start for the new year at summer academy, interning at STEM companies, and more. We have several new teachers to welcome, and our newly-graduated alumni, meanwhile, are headed to college! And some members of our team just returned from D.C. for the Intel Schools of Distinction ceremony (see above). It’s going to be an amazing year.
