TAF Academy Travelers

Waterfall in Costa Rica

Thanks to scholarship support from Wimmer Solutions (http://www.wimmersolutions.com/), 10 TAF Academy students will soon embark on a journey to Costa Rica as part of Learning AFAR’s Global Explorers program. Students were chosen based on their leadership potential and academic work, and on financial need. They’ve been prepping for the trip for a couple of months, with the help of AFAR Magazine and TAF Academy staff, by learning cool stuff, like how to document their travel through writing, photography and videography. They’ve also been collecting books to help create libraries where they visit. We can’t wait to read about their journey!

Similar Programs, New Names

TechStart students

We’re expanding to reach more students and that means we need to restructure our programs. TechStart for middle school students will move to White Center and go by its new name, STEM Up. TechStart for elementary school students will still be called TechStart, and the program will be offered during the school day but not after school. TAF Academy schools will still serve grades 6-12. Let’s sum that up: students can go to TechStart during elementary school, STEM Up or TAF Academy during middle school, and TAF Academy (or another local STEM school) for high school.

Students Earning their Keep Once Again

TAF Academy student

TAF Academy students have started their summer internships! This year, we have students at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Avanade, Spring Creek Group, Casey Family Programs, Expeditors, Rainier Valley Chamber of Commerce, Waggener Edstrom and here at TAF Academy in our IT department. In addition to working, students will have professional development sessions and put their thoughts on working life to words on their blogs. Our students have loads of skills and do great work; that’s why these dedicated companies come back for more, year after year.

What’s some other cool stuff about being a TAF Academy student?
