Dear Friend,
The first two weeks of October have been very busy at TAF and TAF Academy.

For starters, about 100 TechStart students came bouncing into our four  learning labs to begin 30 weeks of exploration into everything from energy to programming and robotics. The 1st and 2nd graders had us cracking up as we watched them get used to working on laptops, clicking on every single feature available. Another 100 or so in White Center started classes a week later. Want to know what they're learning? Take a look at the curriculum online.

Meanwhile, TAF Academy had a visit from Stedman Graham (the educator, entrepreneur and best-selling author) on October 13th. He was there to speak to our students and kick off his new personal development program for teens called MyLifeIsAbout.

Mr. Graham's message was not only inspiring to hear, but watching the way he interacted with our students, he engaged them in a way that was consistent with TAF Academy style of teaching. The students seemed to hang on his every word. He even had some of the adults in the room thinking about what he calls "the most important question of your life": "Who are you?"

His visit was just the beginning. Students will take nine weeks to complete the MyLifeIsAbout curriculum. The end result will be a college and career plan that they will start putting into action after the new year.

Pictures and a full account of Stedman Graham's presentation are available on the TAF MediaLab

I have a favor to ask: TechStart and TAF Academy rely heavily on volunteers to help out in a variety of ways.  Our students would certainly benefit from seeing other adults, getting their advice and support.  Do you have some time to give to the education of a young person?  If so, I'd appreciate it if you would contact us at volunteer@techaccess.org and we'll work with you to find a place where you can make the most impact and have the most fun.

Thanks for listening,
