Greetings!
There are many books, by many authors, in many book stores and libraries, which provide information that can help you in laying the foundation to a more successful life and future. However, I have found that a single word can sometimes provide the initial step you need to take in order to succeed. That word is the word "NO" and its use is often enough to provide you with the action you need to take or not take, thus providing you with the foundation I've mentioned above. Saying "YES" is easy and too often people use it rather than the word "NO" because by saying "YES" there is no hassle! However, when you say "NO" it can cause conflict with others because you refused them or, for that matter, you refused yourself. Saying "NO" to friends wanting to go out when you have to study or saying "NO" to those "Bloomin' Onions" at The Outback Restaurant, or saying "NO" to an ice cream cone at your local malt shop, especially when you are on a diet, can cause external and internal conflict as mentioned above. What is important is not what you do, but rather what you don't do, and that is allow yourself to say "YES" to situations in which you know deep inside should have been a "NO!" No one can make that choice except you, and your success in life and whatever your goals might be will be realized more readily, not only by how often you say "NO", but what you say "NO" to...think about it! Make sense?
Gracias,

Weekly "Dicho con Café"
"El que está en el lodo, quiere meter a otros."
The author's translation is that "He who is stuck in mud wants to get others also stuck."
What this is making reference to is that there are individuals that when they are in trouble, they try to get others involved such as a dispute within a marriage, personal financial problems, or other situations. The important thing is to "stay away" from situations where it is going to be a "No-Win" situation for you. Getting involved in a marital dispute is a good example of a "No-Win" situation for you. If you take the side of one, you alienate the other and when they make up, you are left with a "cold" relationship with the spouse you didn't support. So it is with finances when someone asks for a loan because they didn't control their spending, yet you will lose a friend and quite possibly your money because you are now stuck in their "muddied" situation. Stay clean...use mud only when using a mudpack on your face! It's a lot cheaper and it won't lose you any friends! |

More About John A. Flores
Another very interesting visit taken by Mr. Flores and his wife was to the country of Greece, most notably the City of Athens, which included the Acropolis of Athens (also known as the Citadel of Athens), which is Greece's most famous acropolis. They were able to climb to the top of what is a flat rock which rises 400 feet above sea level and visit and view the Parthenon and other structures, allowing Mr. Flores to pose on one of the pedestals as the "Discus Thrower" which added humor to their visit. They were able to also visit the city of Delphi which is the site of the Delphi Oracle, the most famous of Greek oracles, and the major site of worship for the God Apollo. They also were able to visit the town of Marathon from where the name "marathon" is now given to long-distance foot races in some American cities. As the story is told, when the Persians were defeated by the Greeks, a Greek runner by the name of Pheidippides (or Eucles, depending on the author), ran non-stop from the battlefield of Marathon to Athens to announce the Persian defeat, and died from exhaustion shortly after announcing it. The Greeks held a marathon for many years commemorating this event and for many of those years the race distance was 40,000 meters until 1924, when it was changed to 42,195 meters for Olympic competition. Another awesome and beautiful site was Meteora, which was the location of 24 monasteries which were originally built atop of natural sand stone rock pillars which rose as much as 1,800 feet above ground. There are now only six monasteries left with four occupied by men and two occupied by women, with no more than ten inhabitants in each monastery. The monasteries were built by monks seeking to escape the Turks, and used ropes to climb and haul up materials to build the monasteries. It is said that the only time the ropes were changed were when "the Lord let them break!" Ouch!!! It was a beautiful site to visit, especially in the early morning, when the sun rises behind these tall pillars with the monasteries built on top. For those who are fans of James Bond movies, one of the monasteries was used as a filming location for one of those movies, and the Floreses were able to climb up to them using steps that were cut out from the sandstone pillars and by crossing a bridge connecting two of the monasteries. It was a beautiful experience, one that the Floreses will never forget! Try and put Meteora on your "bucket-list!" You'll be glad you did...
When he's not writing books, Mr. Flores makes presentations to local, regional and national groups, using dichos to motivate his audiences. You can contact him for speaking engagements at (559) 456-0128 or at his personal email at jaflores1246@comcast.net
