Greetings!
In previous newsletters, I have talked about the word manańa, the habit of procrastination, and the need for self-discipline. I want to add a new word: Persistence - which is self-discipline in action! It is essential for your success that you develop the ability to persist in the face of ALL setbacks and temporary failures in your life! Of course, as the primary reason for success is persistence, the lack of persistence is the primary reason for failure. You just quit too soon!! There is also a direct relationship between self-discipline and self-esteem. Your self-esteem rises every time you discipline yourself to do what you should do, such as studying instead of playing, or putting aside that ice cream bar when you want to lose weight, or when you do something that will help you whether you feel like it or not! Your continued efforts to achieve will help you overcome your desire to quit or put aside any effort needed for you to succeed, resulting in an increase in your self-esteem! Each action you take will strengthen every other act of self-discipline, making you stronger and more confident in your efforts to succeed. Eventually, you will become a winner because you are unstoppable! Look for books to purchase that will help motivate you as you travel your journey to success. If you don't have the money to buy a book, go to your library and check one out. Remember that "Donde hay voluntad, hay modo" or "Where there is a will, there is a way"! Try it! I did and it works!!!
Gracias,

Weekly "Dicho con Café"
"Como buscarle mangas al chaleco."
The author's translation is that "Like looking for sleeves on a vest."
This dicho applies to someone that is looking for something that is not there! In other words, you'll never find what you are looking for, since it was never there to begin with, like sleeves on a vest. It's a waste of time to keep looking for that one thing that isn't there; instead, you should put your efforts into something that is reachable with what education or skills you presently possess. If you desire a goal that is not reachable at this time, then take the time to get the needed education, job skills or abilities required to reach that goal. Be realistic in what you seek and don't waste precious time in chasing rainbows that can never be reached in your quest to find that "pot of gold!" Don't expect a good paying job without acquiring a good education or skill, as you are delaying finding your success until you do! Even if you go into your own business and think to yourself that you don't need a college education, you will still need knowledge of accounting, marketing and management in order to give your business a chance for success, since all three of these disciplines are needed. I've used all three in my building successful businesses...you will too! |

More About John A. Flores
Another Asian trip taken by Mr. Flores and his wife was to Singapore, which beyond any doubt in their mind was the cleanest, safest city they ever visited. When landing at the airport, the tarmac looked like it had been manicured; it looked so well maintained. There was no graffiti in any part of the city as the Singapore government fines anyone who they catch in that act, or other acts, such as spitting on the street or sidewalk, or sticking chewing gum on any type of surface, whether it's visible or not! In Singapore, you will not find any gum stuck under desks, tables or many other places that we experience too often in America (they do not sell gum in Singapore for this reason). However, the most serious offense in Singapore is to be caught with drugs! When Mr. Flores was walking through the airport, there were signs that stated, "Death Penalty for Bringing Drugs into Singapore." After reading that sign, Mr. Flores and his wife made sure no one came near their luggage for any reason! They are harsh penalties, but the crime rate is nearly zero! Prior to leaving Singapore, they read in the paper about a couple who were changing planes, and were caught with drugs. This left little doubt as to their fate in the not too distant future. The city had different cultural districts such as a Chinese area as well as an Indian (India) area with food, wares, clothing, et cetera, which could be purchased. They were able to eat some great Chinese and Indian food and enjoyed the many different aspects of these two cultures. There is a well-known bar named Raffle's, which is very famous, which survived the Second World War along with the Japanese occupation, and is noted for serving their Bombay Gin as a house specialty! The Flores' have been to Singapore twice and each visit has been a very pleasant experience.
When he's not writing books, Mr. Flores makes presentations to local, regional and national groups, using dichos to motivate his audiences. You can contact him for speaking engagements at (559) 456-0128 or at his personal email at jaflores1246@comcast.net
