Greetings!
During my daily workout at the gym the other day, I had the chance to speak to an experienced mechanic who lost his job due to a slowdown in business, and was looking for either something else to do or somewhere else to work. His situation reminded me of my cousin Felix who lives in San Antonio, Texas. Many years ago, after his discharge from the military service, he went to work for a large company as a store salesman in their fence department. While at first not knowing anything about fences, he became knowledgeable about the different types of materials and styles of fences, along with the type of construction and the skills required to building a good solid fence. Well, wouldn't you know it? After working there for some time, the company decided to close his store and all of a sudden he was out of a job. Felix had been dealt a "lemon" in his life, so what did he do? He made "lemonade out of that lemon" and began his own fence company! Now, over thirty years later, he is still in business and is his own boss, providing for his family. What did he call his business? Felix's Fences!!! So it is with life. It doesn't always give you a winning hand, but when you are handed that lemon in your life, just do what my cousin and so many others have done and make something out of the lemon.
Gracias,

Weekly "Dicho con Café"
"La mula que no patea, muerde."
The author's translation is that "That the mule that doesn't kick, bites."
What this means is that you can be hurt in more ways than one. While the dicho is using the mule as an example, it can easily be applied to people around you when dealing with business, affection, or many other situations. It also means simply that you should be aware of what you are doing and protect yourself in situations where the thinking involved isn't always done with the head, but too often with the heart! Always be alert and vigilant so that you minimize the chances of being hurt. |

More About John A. Flores
Continuing with the Orient, where Mr. Flores enjoyed visiting, another favorite trip of his was the three weeks he and his wife spent in a private car traveling from Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), Vietnam, all the way to Hanoi, in the northern part of the country. Not only were they able to sample many of the fine foods served on their trip, but traveling through the countryside made it possible for them to stop to see how rice was harvested, and to be able to stand in the middle of hundreds of acres under cultivation with tea bushes. They were able to visit Da-Lat, which sits in the mountains of Vietnam and where some of the finest needlework is done by extraordinary women. Their needlework was so outstanding that they could not tell the difference between the front and back. Some of the embroidery that they produced was so realistic; for example, a scene of a fish aquarium looked like the real thing until they got close enough to see that it was all needlework with the color produced by the thread they used. They were able to visit the notorious Cu-Chi Tunnels, a network of connecting underground tunnels used for battle during the Vietnam War, and were able to visit China Beach where U.S. serviceman went for some relaxation. Additionally, they were also able travel by boat and visit the famous site known as Ha-Lang Bay, with its picturesque mountaintops rising out of the waters of the bay. Vietnam is a very beautiful country with the most courteous people, making it a very enjoyable trip. Needless to say, they not only came back with very pleasant memories, but also some material items at a bargain, such as custom-made sport coats and dresses for pennies on the dollar. Vietnam probably ranks in the top five of the sixty countries that have been visited, each with their own set of memories, along with China, Egypt, Machu Pichu/Amazon River, and Norway. Of course, there were other countries such as Greece, Singapore, Argentina, and many others that were also very memorable.
When he's not writing books, Mr. Flores makes presentations to local, regional and national groups, using dichos to motivate his audiences. You can contact him for speaking engagements at (559) 456-0128 or at his personal email at jaflores1246@comcast.net
