Note from the Administrator

Over the last week, we have performed a few system modifications to reach some of our subscribers who have been unable to receive our Weekly Dicho con Café.  We are hoping that these changes will enable us to share our Dichos with you, and if you so happen to be one of our subscribers hearing from us for the first time, we want to say "Welcome" and thank you for your patience!  We hope that from now on you will enjoy our Dichos each week as they arrive on Tuesday mornings.

We also have an archive that is available for those who have missed past Dichos con Café, which can be located at the following link and on the upper corner of this newletter.  There will also be a archive link on our website as well.  (Click here to see our Archive!)

The final item that we addressed is the changing of our email contact information for questions, comments or suggestions that you may have.  We can now be contacted through email to john@dichosydichos.com.

All other contact information (mailing address/phone number) remains the same.

Thank you!

Greetings!

As I mentioned last week, a dicho shared at the appropriate time can sometimes help a person make the right decision.  Here is my example:  A few years ago, my oldest son, who was employed as a medical transcriber at a local hospital, decided to sell real estate on the side in order to supplement his income.  Lo and behold, he made a couple of sales right away which earned him a very nice commission.  By realizing an immediate "cash-flow," he began to consider leaving his permanent hospital job (which provided medical coverage, sick leave, vacation and other perks) for a job that was 100% commission with no benefits provided and is regarded as a "feast or famine" business, as many who are or have been in the industry can attest.  His brothers and I tried to talk him out of it, but he was insistent that this was the right move.  My last words to him were, "Son, there is a dicho that says, "Una golondrina no hace la primavera," the translation meaning that "one swallow (bird) does not make spring."  After a few days he called me back and said that he had been thinking about the dicho and his "golondrina," and had decided to stay with his hospital job.  It was a wise decision as he ultimately didn't have a real estate sale for the following six months!  As I've said, dichos can make a difference if used at the appropriate time!  Try it sometime...

Weekly "Dicho con Café"

"El que le lava la cara al burro, pierde su tiempo y pierde su jabon."

The author's translation is that
"Whomever washes a burro's face wastes his time as well as his soap."

The meaning behind this is to encourage you to not waste your time or whatever else you might spend with certain people.  A person that does not appreciate your kindness and generosity is causing you to waste your time and effort in trying to be nice to them.  Learn to choose wisely early in life those that appreciate your overtures of kindness and help, as opposed to those who will never be appreciative of what you've done for them, in spite of all that you do.  It will save you some heartache in your life.  This happens much too often among "friends" or even "family," when you try to help with no reciprocation on their part.  While it may be difficult sometimes because of that personal relationship, it might just be in your best interest to just walk away or, as another saying goes, to "cut your losses."

More About John A. Flores

Mr. Flores, like many others, has developed his own "Wish List" over his life, and has been able to achieve many of those "wish list" dreams which were, in many cases, to travel and visit many world sites. He has been fortunate to fulfill such dreams as standing on the Great Wall of China, or visiting the Cu Chi Tunnels in Vietnam, or travel two of the longest rivers in the world, the Nile and the Amazon.  Three specific dreams that he always had were becoming a pilot, owning a radio station, and meeting a sitting United States president.  He accomplished all three:  He purchased a Cessna 172 Skyhawk airplane to travel throughout California and the surrounding states for his business ventures, was the owner of radio station KBAI in Morro Bay, California, which broadcasted throughout the Central California coast, and had the privilege of meeting with President Gerald Ford in the Oval Office.

What Mr. Flores did was to find a way of accomplishing and fulfilling those dreams on his wish list.  He never accepted, both in his personal life and business life, that something "can't be done" and instead found a way so that "it can be done!"  He used his knowledge from the books he read (which is very important if you want to succeed) along with his work ethic and experience that he learned early in life, to ignore the hurdles and stumbling blocks that he encountered in his life, using them instead to build a strong foundation that would help him accomplish the dreams on his own personal wish list.  He learned early in life to set aside an amount from each of his paychecks and, in time, learned to invest so that money was working for him instead of him having to work for money!  This is the secret of those that are wealthy, if you are seeking wealth, but you must remember that true wealth isn't measured in dollars, but rather in the character of the person and what he in turn gives to his family and community. In his speaking engagements, he uses dichos to make this important point to his audience, to hopefully motivate them to have a better life through education!

When he's not writing books, Mr. Flores makes presentations to local, regional and national groups, using dichos to motivate his audiences. You can contact him for speaking engagements at (559) 456-0128 or at his personal email at jaflores1246@comcast.net
I hope that in the coming weeks and months you continue to enjoy this very rich part of our culture which not only has humor, but also provides sound advice as it has to many generation before you.
