Greetings!
Let me begin by wishing all of you a very Happy Easter and my hope is that you spend a wonderful Easter Sunday with your loved ones. Here we are already, with three months already gone this year, and it's now April. As you may or may not know, the word "April" is of Latin origin and means "open," so this is the month for things to begin opening up! We see animals leaving their burrows, blossoms turning into flowers or fruit, birds flying to new destinations and, hopefully for you, the opening of doors for opportunity so that you can enjoy life even more. With that said, "open" up your world to our "World of Dichos" and enjoy the humor and wisdom that has been so wisely put into a few words over the past centuries. While all languages have their own "dichos," I'm sure that none can compare with the number and variety of dichos that the Hispanic culture possesses. Take the time to share this humor and wisdom with others and find those dichos among those many that are available, which can be used to motivate students, parents and all others to become better people by making the right choices.
Once again, Happy Easter!
Gracias,
John A. Flores, MBA - Author

Weekly "Dicho con Café"
"El que luce entre las ollas, no luce entre las seńoras"
The author's translation is that "Whoever shines among the pots and pans does not shine among the ladies"
This dicho, regarding the need for an education, was initially basically directed toward a young man and states that without a good skill or education, his prospects of being admired by the ladies is slim to none! However, we all know that in this day and age, the meaning is relative to young men and women alike. A good education can provide a better income and lifestyle, which increases the possibility for finding a compatible mate (many couples meet in the career field), marriage, home, family, travel, and all of the other wonderful things that can be accomplished. With the unemployment figures as high as they are today, those with little education face quite an uphill battle in making a good living, and while the dicho addresses a young man being "admired by the ladies," the point is to "get an education" and improve your chances for having a better life.

More About John A. Flores
Mr. Flores, as mentioned previously, attended many grammar schools during his early years and, as such, was resident of many labor camps sites that included barn stalls, tents, one room houses (shacks really!), as well as camping under trees from where he saw many a star-filled night sky when going to sleep. It was during those times that other migrant workers found out that Mr. Flores was collecting dichos, that soon many of them were contributing to the list by writing a dicho on a piece of paper, backside of match book covers, pieces of cardboard, and whatever else they had at the time to write on. The few became the many, and over the years a box began to fill up with all the dichos that other migrants had contributed during those times. Mr. Flores kept this good-size box of dichos for over 30 years and the box went with him wherever he lived. So, about 20 years ago, he began typing them up with a typewriter that he owned at the time and thus began the list of dichos being put to print which at that time numbered between 1,500 to 2,000!
When he's not writing books, Mr. Flores makes presentations to local, regional and national groups, using dichos to motivate his audiences. You can contact him for speaking engagements at (559) 456-0128 or at his personal email at jaflores1246@comcast.net
