Our staff members  and network counselors were very busy this month!  We created a flurry of activities to commemorate National Problem Gambling Awareness  Week.  See everything we did here.

NPGAW Activities

We sponsored a Youth Outreach Project, and asked kids from around the state to send in art and videos depicting the dangers of gambling addiction.  We will use these for future outreach. Here are our favorites:

We have now taken over 200 calls from West Virginians struggling with a prescription drug addiction.   We recently held a series of press conferences announcing partnerhsips with Valley HealthCare, Wesbtrook Health Services, and Healthways.

Kimberly Honaker, Project Manager with the WVU Dept. of Behavioral Medicine and Psychiatry, has worked extensively with the SBIRT program.   She recently shared a letter from a man who was grateful for the early intervention provided by the program.

"On a Sunday evening as I lied in a hospital bed,

Kimberly offered me hope to overcome my

addiction to alcohol. Through this program, my counselor Holly Thomas led me through

twenty sessions that began as a picture of the past and became a pathway to sobriety.

I am forever grateful forever grateful to exchange the pain of abuse for the peace of serenity."

Great job SBIRT providers!
