National Problem Gambling Awareness Week was a great success, thanks to efforts by our staff and network counselors. We mailed literature on our program to each of the 2300+ churches in the state. We are sending coasters with symptoms of gambling addiction out to each of the 1400+ Limited Video Lottery retailers. We had a multitude of other mass mailings, exhibits, presentations, and press releases. We began a television ad campaign in northern WV. We asked youth from around the state to submit poster and video concepts. Several news outlets aired the story of one of our "success stories."

First Choice Health now answers a statewide prescription drug abuse quitline. Since taking over about two months ago our counselors have received over 150 calls. We are now working to get doctors, clinics, and therapists into our network, so that we can contact the providers on behalf of callers to facilitate their treatment.
Interested in helping out with outreach? We can send free posters and brochures to your organization!
One promising new treatment is Vivitrol. Many doctors are now prescribing this injection to help opioid abusers.

Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Data Collection Program
As part of this grant, we have worked closely with many community groups who are providing activities designed to deter drug and alcohol abuse amoung youth. These groups focus on providing outreach that is both creative and evidence-based. This month we want to highlight the efforts of Community Connections, Inc. This group, led by Greg Puckett, covers many counties in southeast West Virginia. Their Drug-Free All Stars program combines education and fun to help kids make good choices.
