New 9000M2 Software Paging Features

For those of you that have not yet updated your 9000M2 software, you are going to find a few pleasant surprises when it comes to programming inputs for paging purposes.

  • Quicker Access: 9000M2pagingThe paging priority window is now accessible in the signal flow screen by selecting the blue box next to the Input Volume button.
  • New Vox Feature: Previously when a paging input was using a Vox trigger, the programming would have to take place in the Paging Priority window and in the Gate settings.  Now, all features required for Vox paging are easily accessible in the Paging Priority window. 9000M2paging2
    • Accessible Features: Priority Level (1,2,3), Vox on or off, Vox Threshold, Release time, and Ducking Level (or how much that input will turn down when a higher priority input signal is present).
  • Notes:
    • With the addition of the new Vox circuit you no longer need to set up the Gate for Vox paging.
    • The Release Time setting is still a global setting and will apply to both the Vox circuit and the Gate circuit.
Stay tuned for further updates to the 9000M2 and all the other TOA products as they become available!

Product Spotlight: TOA Slim Line Arrays
Challenge: How to achieve consistent, high-quality sound in a house of worship or auditorium, without heavily impacting on delicate architecture or budget?
Solution: TOA Slim Line Arrays allow you to achieve impressive fidelity and vocal quality with consistent front-to-back coverage, while blending nicely with architectural surroundings. Oh, and you won't need to pass the plate around much to pay for them either.
SR-S4
TOA has a loudspeaker legacy dating back over 70 years. In the last 30, TOA has made major strides in providing speakers that lead the industry for unique, flexible design and in size/sound output ratio. That has never been truer than with the SR-S & SR-H Slim Line Arrays, each designed to fill a different sound design requirement, with the smallest physical footprint possible.

Starting with smaller requirements, TOA's Type H Slim Line Arrays are near invisible and produce excellent coverage pattern (0-20 degree V x 90 degree H). That means even SPL levels from front row to last row and side-to-side control to keep sound focused on your audience and not the walls.  The Type H Series consists of four models in long and short throw versions, including straight or curved variations. The straight (L) versions provide longer throw (0 degree V) and the curved (S) versions providing 0 degree V angle on the top half (for reaching the rear of the room) and a 20 degree downward angle on the bottom half of the speaker to assure even coverage of the front rows. The shorter designs are the SR-H2L (straight), SR-H2S (curved); the longer designs are the SR-H3L (straight), SR-H3S (curve). System designer love the SR-H for their efficiency and because they are lightweight and easy to install.

For larger venues, the compact SR-S Series Slim Line Arrays provide incredibly clear speech intelligibility even in reverberant environments, such as houses of worship and educational facilities. The SR-S4S  can produce high SPL levels and handle continuous power of up to 600W.  They may be run as "full-range" speakers and are also bi-amp ready. Models include the SR-S4L (0 degree long-throw) and the SR-S4S (10degree short-throw) speakers, each with eight 4" cone drivers and twenty-four 1" balanced dome tweeters, all aligned to form a continuous linear sound source.  The SR-S4 Series can produce full-range, high-fidelity sound at a distance, even without a subwoofer. However, in cases where extended bass reproduction is required, the addition of the FB-120 or SR-C15B can dramatically improve bass response. SR-S Series is also available in weather-resistant (WP) versions for use in outdoor areas, such as sports stadiums or other outdoor events.

Both Series provide high quality sound without the use of a "special" equalizer (though optimization EQ curves are achievable using various TOA DSP models, such as 9000M2 Series or D-2000). All models come in a white, paintable finish. Straight (L) models may be vertically stacked to create longer throw arrays.  A flexible range of installation hardware is available for both SR-H and SR-S Series Slim Line Arrays, allowing wall, flying or stand mounting. Both may also be used in 70V distributed application with the addition of an optional transformer. All this would be meaningless, if the SR-H & SR-S Series, were not affordable.  These amazing performers will allow you to design an impressive system for much less than  you might expect.

Type H & Type S speakers are also available as part of the TOA package systems (Prophet, Chorus & Congregation).

EASE focus and CAD data files are available for all TOA Speaker models. Download our Free EASE Focus app and "test drive" the Slim Line Arrays and other TOA speakers to see how they will perform.

Tech Tip: When One Speaker Just Isn't Enough
By: Josh Srago, CTS
Choosing a speaker for an application can sometimes be tricky.  Taking into account the idea of aesthetic, program material, necessary volume for the application, and mounting location are just a few of the considerations that need to be made.  When dealing with slim line array speaker (like the TOA SR-H or TOA SR-S) you are dealing with a speaker that is commonly going to be mounted lower to the audience listening plane.  One of the issues that can arise in this kind of application is the absorption of sound by all the bodies in the listening plane causing a large variance in dB SPL from the front to the rear of the venue.  So, in wanting to keep with the aesthetic of the slim line array speakers how do you accommodate for that longer throw?  That's when it's time to stack the speakers.
The TOA SR-H3L and SR-H2L are both speaker options that can be stacked, increasing the size of the array, frequency response, Sound Pressure Level, and throw distance.  However, it is important to note that the SR-H3S and SR-H2S cannot be used in a stacked array.  (See the SPL response.)

The TOA SR-S4L can be stacked on top of either a second SR-S4L or an SR-S4S.  In addition to all the same advantages as stacking the SR-H series speakers, this would also provide an increased vertical dispersion when stacking an SR-S4L on top of an SR-S4S. (See the SPL response.)
