| A Newsletter for TOA Dealers |
Effective January 1, 2012, Mr. Masahiko Takao will depart TOA Electronics, Inc in the US for a new assignment in Canada. Mr. Takao has served as President and CEO since 2009, during one of the most challenging periods in the Company's history and will be serving in the same role at TOA Canada. We thank him for his contribution to TEI and wish him the best of success in his new assignment. At the same time, Mr. Yasuyuki Takahashi will be assuming the role of President & CEO for the US company. Mr. Takahashi has been serving a similar role in our sister company, TOA Canada Corporation, for several years. He brings his experience in the North American Commercial AV market, as well as his hands-on management approach. "Our goal for 2012 and beyond is to build a cohesive team that will work more closely with our customers and end-users, so we may better serve their needs", says Mr. Takahashi. We all look forward to the changes and plans for success we will see under his administration. Mr. Takahashi will be based in the Secaucus, NJ office.

TOA Adds Applications Section to Website
|

Beginning January, 2012, TOA will be launching an Applications Section to its website. Directly accessible from our homepage, this section will organize products according to key markets and applications as opposed to product categories (though that method will still remain an option). This will make it easier for our customers to locate the appropriate products based on their usage. So, instead of searching "Speakers" and drilling down through different types to find the right ones, a user who is interested in speakers for say -hospitals, can click on the "Healthcare" link, which will then show all the products (including speakers) designed to work for healthcare industry applications. This also helps to better explain how TOA products fit together to create complete solutions. The Applications section will be continually updated, with new products, installation profiles and full color brochures specific to each application. In the coming year, we will also be adding system design templates in CAD format to be used as examples or starting points for typical applications. Please check our website www.toaelectronics.com homepage for a direct link. |

Product Spotlight: New TS-800/900 IR Conference System Software |
 By: Josh Srago, CTS
Many of you are familiar with the fact that IR technology in a conference system has become a mainstay in corporate facilities, town council meetings, courthouses, and even the rental market throughout the United States. The TOA TS-800 and TS-900 IR conference systems are a perfect fit in these environments, allowing for portability with the optional Li-ion battery power for each station, and easy system expansion (up to 64 stations with the TS-800 and 96 stations with the TS-900). Security due to IR signal transmission and reception preventing eavesdropping, along with simple integration with any PA solution through the central unit, makes this product a top seller. With a versatile system like the TS-800/900, the next consideration for your clients is control. This is why TOA developed a brand new GUI software. With the new TS-800/900 GUI software, your clients now have the ability to: - Monitor and control any station connected to the system
- Track and display voting results
- Store detailed log information from each session
- Quickly verify system connectivity of all stations on the system
If you would like a copy of the software, you will need to contact the TOA Product Support group at 800-733-4748 and make a request. For further information, please contact your local TOA sales representative.

| Tech Tip: The Benefits of the TOA ARC Processor |
By: Josh Srago, CTS
Sound can be a harsh mistress at times, particularly in environments with lots of hard surfaces where the frequencies will bounce continuously. Sure, they might sound great as a sample source for reverberation, but that doesn't do a sound engineer with minimal experience any good, nor does it help when your system is running as an auto-mixer. So what do you do with these stone churches, gymnasiums, historical buildings, and transportation terminals when the sound of a voice is unintelligible but treatment isn't an option? Turn to the TOA ARC Processor. The TOA Auto Resonance Control (ARC) Processor is a proprietary audio processor that will assist in increasing the intelligibility of audio for all of these highly reverberant spaces without the need for expensive measurement equipment or acoustical treatment. The reason that resonance occurs is because the frequencies are reflecting off of a hard surface and causing what is known as a "standing wave". The original incidence wave is the sound projected by the speakers. As that sound travels, the waves bump against reflective surfaces causing the reflections to intersect with the incidence wave. As the frequencies cross paths, this intersection increases the amplification of certain frequencies resulting in resonance. To utilize the ARC Processor, you may use any type microphone you have available at the given facility and place that microphone in the general listening area. Once the microphone has been placed, turning on the ARC Processor will cause one of TOA's digital signal processors (M-633D or DP-K1) to generate pink noise and 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency sweeps through your sound system. The ARC processor will use the signal heard from the microphone to detect which frequencies are the most resonant in the room. It is those frequencies with the longest resonance that can cause the unintelligible audio for the system, making it difficult for people to hear a presenter's voice clearly. The ARC processor will then apply EQ attenuation to only those highly resonant frequencies. This allows the frequency response of the system to remain more even or "flat". So if you or your client has a facility that is struggling with unintelligible audio, remember the TOA ARC processor could be the simple solution that clears the air. This DSP processing function is available in 2 TOA mixers - the M-633D and the DP-K1. The M-633D is a single rack space mixer with 6 mono mic/line inputs, 3 stereo inputs, and 3 outputs (1 stereo, 2 mono). This unit has no GUI software and will be perfect for those smaller to medium sized solutions where a single point of control is required. The unit has 3 independent ARC processers, one for each the stereo output and two mono outputs. Additionally, each of the mono mic/line inputs have independent and easy to use feedback suppressors that are all turned on or off individually by a front panel switch. The DP-K1 is a three rack space modular mixer with up to 8 inputs and 8 outputs. This unit is IP addressable and controlled with the DP-K1 GUI software. DSP functions available in the software are gain controls for input, EQ, compressor, and gate, a matrix for signal routing, and up to 8 independent ARC processors that can be routed to any combination of outputs. The DP-K1 is a secure DSP solution with the absolute minimum of front panel control, only allowing a user to adjust which of 16 preset scenes is currently active. The DP-K1 has the input and output flexibility with full matrix capabilities and multi-zone ARC processing that make it an ideal product for medium to larger facilities.
