Product Spotlight: Rechargeable Wireless
TOA has recently added new chargers to the 5000 Series product line as of April 2012. What you may not know, is that the new transmitters provide an exclusive charging system, which accepts NiMH batteries and works with the new series of optional charging stations.  This adds a whole new level of convenience to the TOA wireless series. Simply placing the mic in the charger when not in use assures that it will always be "ready-to-go". No need to run to the store for Alkaline batteries ever again.

The two new handheld microphones, WM-5265 vocal microphone and WM-5225 speech microphone, the WM-5325 wireless transmitter and WT-5100 portable receiver (TBA), are all powered by rechargeable batteries. The ability to use rechargeable batteries permit up to 13 hours of continuous use before recharging. A selection of three new high-efficiency battery chargers for 2, 6, or 12 batteries, and/or single-battery microphones add further flexibility to the product line-up.

The BC-50002PS is a dual charging station, which accepts 5000 Series rechargeable transmitters and/or portable tuners and includes an AD-5000-2 Power Adapter. The BC-50006PS is a six slot charging station, which accepts 5000 Series rechargeable transmitters and/or portable tuners and includes an AD-5000-6 Power Adapter. The BC-500012PS is a twelve slot charging station, which  accepts  5000 Series rechargeable transmitters and/or portable tuners, and includes an AD-5000-6 Power Adapter. These chargers are now in-stock and available.

Tech Tip: Adding A Subwoofer To A 70V Audio System F-Group_Small
By: Josh Srago, CTS
When you start your career in the A/V industry, you begin to take notice of how prevalent audio and video are in our daily lives.  Most commonly you start to recognize that background music is all around you.  With music being so heavily integrated into our daily lives, some people want to establish that high fidelity aspect and move beyond basic ceiling speakers or small box speakers and add the lower frequency range by incorporating a subwoofer. F-1000-2000

The desire to add a subwoofer into these systems raises 2 questions:
  1. How do we incorporate a low impedance subwoofer into these common 70V systems?
  2. How do we incorporate speaker processing for the subwoofer if there is no DSP?
The most basic 70V audio system for background music applications, corporate boardroom applications, and classroom applications starts commonly with a mixer/amplifier like the TOA BG-235. HB-1 This mixer/amp with 3 inputs and 35W of output is great for 1-2 speakers in smaller application.  The BG-235 can be paired perfectly with speakers like the TOA F-1300BT, a 5" 2-way box speaker, or the F-2352C, a 5" co-axial ceiling speaker with a 170 degree dispersion angle.  A perfect, and low profile, pairing for these speakers is the TOA HB-1 subwoofer.  The HB-1 is an in-wall or in-ceiling subwoofer with a paintable white grille so it can match any environment.  Because a subwoofer is designed to reproduce lower frequencies, it is best practice to process that audio signal independently and isolate it to its own amplifier.  When used with the E-07S module, the correct speaker processing can be inserted directly into a BG-2000 series mixer/amplifier providing the answer to question #2 above.
Sub-Config
Now that we have the fundamentals in our system with a mixer/amplifier and 70V speakers for wide frequency response, how do we connect the subwoofer into the system?  Looking at one the LINE OUT feature on the back of both the BG-235, we see that this can be easily accomplished.  Using that LINE OUT feature, we can feed that signal into an E-07S module housed in a BG-2120.  At this point we need to insert the MT-S0601 matching transformer which will allow the low impedance HB-1 subwoofer to handle a 60W high impedance 70V signal from our BG-2120.  While the MT-S0601 is optional, it can be a great advantage in keeping all speakers in the system at high impedance, which can be very useful when connecting all devices and troubleshooting down the line.

For more information regarding the TOA BG Series mixer/amplifiers, the F-Series Ceiling speakers, the F-Series Box speakers, and the HB-1 subwoofer, please see our website or feel free to contact the Product Support Group at 800-733-4748 from 8 am to 8 pm EST.
