Our first 200 hour Teacher Training is rockin!

We had an amazing turn-out for  the first Yoga I.S. 200 hour RYT program , comprised of six 3-4 day courses held at 651 South Fourth Street, Louisville, KY

I think Jody said it best when he said "I am learning a lot, but it is more about what I am UN-learning!"

We spend 10 hours discussing the idea of flexibility, range of motion, and how muscles develop tension.  The questions were awesome and to see the students apply this to their teaching was incredible.  Donna taught her Tai-Chi-Yoga-Moving Meditation class on day two.  This fitness-oriented group all commented about how difficult it was to move in such a precise manner.  After looking at the hip, knee, and ankle in-depth, comparing it to engineering and architecture, many students immediately realized why these poses came about.  They all experienced cues and adjustments that they had never seen or thought of!

We are so fortunate to have such a beautiful space for learning and practicing!  Many commented on how perfect the setting was and how comfortable they felt.  Donna's awesome refreshments made everyone feel all warm and cozy!  Even though the grand opening was the day after a torrential rainfall in Louisville, complete with leaks all over the building, we could not be more proud of how the studio turned out!  Jenny, Donna, and myself are all working very hard to give Downtown Louisville a cutting-edge program and meet the working crowds' fitness needs!  We have also met a lot of interesting people outside on the downtown fourth street! LOL!

Nationally, Yoga I.S. will be featured next year at both the Houston and Washington DC conferences as an education sponsor for DCAC fitness!  I first started presenting for this group in 2001.  What an honor to now have sponsored sessions and our own booth to spread the work we are doing nationally!  Not only that, Yoga IS will be offering two sets of MAT Jump Start Courses in Louisville for the first time EVER in 2012!  This cutting edge program has helped so many people and I still treat up to 15 clients a week with the techniques from MAT.  I am so proud to spread the word!  Muscle Activation Techniques is revolutionary.

Greetings from Yoga I.S.!

Delievered monthly to your inbox, this newsletter will give you the most up-to-date information about the exciting new Yoga School and Studio, Yoga I.S. There has never been anything of its kind anywhere.  Yoga I.S. gives scientifc validation to the ancient practice of Yoga.  This is the most biomechanically based program you will find, with instructors that have spent their careers studying anatomy, neuroscience, biochemistry, and exercise mechanics while immersing themselves in the Yoga community.  There is a reason why Yoga works, why it has such staying power, why it seems to be the healing answer for so many people, and how so many people are practicing yoga today.  Our monthly newsletter will keep you in the loop as more teacher trainings are scheduled and more research is discovered.  Welcome to the Yoga I.S. family!
Sincerely,

A cool email from one of our current 200 hour students!

"Lauren-

Used some new stuff in the early morning strength class today -- had them do active range of motion exercises with a few isometrics as their warm up. It's amazing that they can feel like they 'stretched' when in reality they 'contracted' and recruited a little more muscle than what they were used to in certain positions. LOL! I'm still wrapping my mind around it, but the more I do it, the better it feels!

My hamstrings actually do feel better this week and I have avoided 'deep range of motion' in my yoga poses as well cool downs after my Spin and strength classes. And, this may be a coincidence (maybe not), that my upper traps and shoulders feel less tight and constricted now that I'm focusing on getting other areas more mobile -- I keep remembering the story you told us about the girl with shoulder pain that wasn't her shoulder really at all. It was her immobility everywhere else!

I know there were muscles in my legs that were being lazy because my glutes were doing a lot of work. I really focused on waking up my quads and the anterior hip muscles all the way down my legs in yoga yesterday (with isometrics) and in my strength training on Tuesday. My quads are sore -- but in a way that I know they woke up and actually did some work! It's hard to explain, but I know you probably understand better than I do what's happening. Anyway, it's all good."
