Greetings!

Welcome back to "How's the Market?"

And how is the market?  In mid-April, Crain's Chicago Business reported that Chicago-area home sales were up 24% in March.  The warm weather seemed to get people out looking a little bit more.  I had a good month in April  -- I'm working with several motivated buyers and my beautiful listing on Maple Court went under contract earlier in April.  Smart buyers are realizing that this is an unusual time to purchase a home.  Interest rates remain historically low and housing values are back to 2000-2001 levels --- it's a great time to jump in.

The Wall Street Journal indicated:
"Climbing rents for apartments are combining with a continued decline in home prices to push once-reluctant home buyers into finally taking the plunge, say economists and real-estate agents, helping what appears to be a good start to the housing industry's all-important spring selling season...."

May is traditionally one of the highest sales months on the North Shore.  School is ending and people are thinking about getting settled over the summer in time for the next school year.  Here's hoping the encouraging signs continue!

Just the facts..
How's the market?
While the actual number of units that have sold  is increasing, the overhang of inventory continues to drag prices downward.   Crain's Chicago Business also reported that the Case-Shiller index fell hitting it's lowest level since May, 2000.

"The Chicago-area index is down about 37.5 percent from its peak in September 2006....A combination of the sheer volume of foreclosure suits and the state court system's slow processing of them has created of a logjam of properties moving through the courts."

All indications are that while the trend is in the right direction, we're not out of the woods yet....

What Effects Credit Scores?
Credit Score

If you're trying to raise your credit score to get a good rate for a refinance or HELOC, you might be surprised by what affects-or doesn't affect-your score.

Having many credit lines won't necessarily hurt your credit score, so long as you keep balances below 20% of the total credit line.

You have to keep your credit score up in case you want to ....
