Triune Mercy Center Newsletter
February 2012 |
From the pastor:
Hundreds of you from our 57 partner churches have joined us at Triune for worship, for meals, for volunteering, for art shows, for concerts, for all kinds of support for our homeless community. Every once in awhile we like to return the favor!
That's why we're opening the Beach House to you, our partners. The Beach House is a 1910 house a block from Triune, at the corner of Earle and Rutherford streets. There's no ocean view, exactly, but inside, ah ... that's a different story.
When a generous landlord loaned us one of the house's spacious five-room apartments as a meeting space, we handed it over to art room director Karen Lucci and her talented volunteers with just one request: Make it beach-y.
That's why there are sand dunes and sea in one room, a wall of fish in another, a painting of a surfboard-laden car in the kitchen. And that's why there are postcards of a barefoot Jesus sitting cross-legged on the beach, frying up fish for his disciples in a scene straight out of the gospel of John.
At Triune, we use the Beach House for a weekday Bible study, centering prayer, a journaling class and a finance class, as well as for staff and board retreats. Now we want to offer it to you.
If you have a mission circle or book club or other ministry that would like to meet in this delightful space, call Randy at 233-8020, ext. 200, to book it. What do we get out of it? There are calendars and notecards for sale, pottery and fish and baby sweaters. And we hope you will be moved to give a love offering for the homeless ministries at Triune.
That's in the short term. In the long term, we hope you will grow closer to Triune, and closer to the ministry that we all do together in the name of our Savior, the fisher of men, the fryer of fish.

Beyond the soup kitchen: Meanwhile, we've talked to quite a few volunteers who serve meals here and don't know what else Triune does. So we want to offer quick educational tours for our meal-serving churches.
We will offer mini-tours on Saturdays at 10 AM, and Sundays at 1 and 3 PM. That way, you kitchen workers can come early or stay late to get a glimpse of what else goes on. Or you can even come when your church is NOT serving.
Please call Randy at 233-8020, ext. 200, just so we'll know to expect you.
Blessings,
Deb Richardson-Moore
