Message from the President

Happy New Year!

I want to thank all of you, board and supporting members for a grateful and successful 2011. Without your effort, volunteered hours and contributions we would not be able to achieve our mission!

With your contributions we were able to grant $13,500, providing additional teaching material, lab equipment and a scholarship for the Study Abroad Program. Teachers' requests ranged from additional class material to conferences, always ultimately benefiting our High School and Middle School students.

To perpetuate our mission, every year the board members of the AP Booster organization seek individuals willing to work actively for the success of our students' High School career as many of the graduating parents leave their positions on the board. It is important for our students and teachers to continue receiving the support they have since 2003. Please consider being part of this enjoyable and gratifying organization.

A Nominating Committee is being formed looking for AP Booster enthusiasts. If you would like to get involved, please contact Kathy Mitchell at momandkp@momandkp.comYour student and our teachers need you.

Your dedication is deeply appreciated!

Sincerely,

Regina Bumagny
AP Booster President

AP Exam Registration is Open

Due to state budget constraints, the Texas Education Agency is no longer able to pay for a portion of students' AP exams. Therefore, this year the cost is increasing to $91.00 per exam. Carroll ISD has already opened the exam registration process to give families more time to pay for the exams, registering for only some exams each month (January, February, and March). Additionally, CISD has added the ability for families to pay for AP exams with a credit card. Hopefully these additions to the registration process will be helpful for families who are registering for multiple AP exams. If your family needs additional help or information please contact your student's counselor. To register for AP exams click this link: www.TotalRegistration.net/AP/442963

Carroll AP Booster Club awards over $12000

in classroom enrichment grants!

The mission of the Carroll AP Boosters is to ensure all students have the opportunity to experience an advanced education by providing volunteer help, financial support and enlightening the community about advanced academics.  This mission is intended to promote a foundation for continuing education and life experiences for the students of our district.

One of the many ways we go about achieving that goal begins at the beginning of each school year. The Carroll AP Boosters start the year by disseminating Enrichment Grant information to the Pre-AP, AP, GT and Quest teachers within the Southlake Carroll ISD. Teachers have the opportunity to apply for a grant that will enrich the educational experience of their students through programs, text books, additional services that aren't offered by the district, equipment and through funding teachers' way to AP Conferences.

This year, the Carroll AP Boosters gave out 18 Enrichment Grants to teachers throughout the district in the amount of $12,949.24. These funds were raised via football ticket fundraising, membership drives and donations.  This is only one of the many ways the Carroll AP Boosters give back to Southlake Carroll ISD. Through the communities continued support, Carroll AP Boosters will be able to help direct funds back into the schools and directly affect the students in a positive way. This funding is proving to be critical during this budget shortfall.

Thank you for your membership and generous support of the Carroll Advanced Academics Programs!

Cheryl Shankman Study Abroad Scholarship

The Cheryl Shankman Study Abroad Scholarship application process was very successful this year! We had many qualified applicants and were thrilled to have 4 fantastic judges that willingly gave of their time for the process. Devon Land, a senior at Carroll Senior High School, was the recipient of the 2012 scholarship in the amount of $500. This money will be applied to her study abroad trip - Spring Break Adventure 2012. We'd like to extend a special thank you to Brian Shankman for giving his time during the judging and presentation of the scholarship.

Congratulations Devon!

Carroll AP Art Offerings Celebrated

The Carroll AP Boosters organized a Carroll Fine Arts Exposition and Open House on Tuesday, Dec. 6 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

The December Open House was highly successful with over 100 attendees. Highlights included a student gallery exhibit and photography slide show. Presentations on AP Art History and the new AP Music Theory class were featured and information about Carroll ISD's Pre-AP and AP Art offerings and travel abroad opportunities was available for all attendees. Our special guest - Tommy Newton, Director of Admissions for SMU Meadows School of Fine Arts - held a discussion on Art Schools versus University Art Programs focusing on what admissions looks for in prospective art students. Performances by Carroll Middle School Varsity Choir and Carroll High School One Voice Show Choir lent a celebratory note to the festivities!

Fine Arts Building
The event highlighted the new Carroll Senior High Fine Art Wing completed this fall. The design and construction of the new facility is part of the 2009 Bond package. In addition to instructional classrooms, the 11,220 square foot art wing features a 3-D studio room, kiln and glaze rooms, a computer lab, outdoor work area and a large gallery.

The Carroll Fine Arts Exposition and Open House was coordinated by the Carroll ISD AP Boosters.

AP Matters!

Gina Peddy, CISD GT and Quest coordinator, presented the importance of taking AP courses in high school. The presentation included information about what AP courses and AP exams are like, which AP courses are taught at CISD, how AP courses favorably impact college admission, how AP courses better prepare students' transition into college, and the impact of AP exam scores on college tuition fees. The event was held at the new Southlake DPS building on January 12th and was very well attended.

Membership

Our membership total for this year has grown to 324 families! Wow! This is a substantial increase over last year's membership. Carroll AP Boosters runs solely on parent power, making every contribution to our organization vital to our mission. Your membership dues provide teacher enrichment grants to support AP/Honors classes,

college scholarships and community programs that support Advanced Academics students and families. Additionally, the time you contribute to proctor AP Exams saves CISD money, which benefits all students in the District.

Thank you for your continued support!
