Hope & Healing e-Newsletter

Hey there!   Tami

Have you ever wondered how much pain is too much? Or looked for alternatives to taking pain pills?

This month's newsletter is all about pain management.

There are two articles from when Dr. Liptan, our local fibro doc, visited the fibro group I co-lead, plus a guest article from one of my clients about her personal experience with pain meds.

There's still room at the workshop I'm doing next week, A Healthy New You. This will be held Next Thursday, April 5th at 6:30 PM. You can get more details here.

Don't forget to check out the Upcoming Events section for events you can take part in -- in person, or from the comfort of your own home and pajamas!

Also, if you want to watch a video of Dr. Liptan's visit with our group, you can join the fibromyalgia support group I co-lead. It's open to anyone, anywhere!

Enjoy some Hope & Healing this month!

PS... Think of one woman who told you recently, "I'm so tired of hurting all the time. There has to be a better way to manage this pain!" and to her. She will definitely thank you for it!

Turn up that radioFor our February meeting, Dr. Liptan visited the fibromyalgia group I co-lead, giving an overview of the pain cycle, ideas for treating each part of it, plus why fibromyalgia pain is hard to treat.

This article is part one, the second part, Answers to Seven Tough Questions on Fibromyalgia Pain (below), covers the Q&A session Dr. Liptan did for us after her talk.

Usually the articles I post in this newsletter are my own. This time, however, I wanted to add this excellent article by Tamara, my client and co-leader in the Portland Fibromyalgia - ME/CFS Group.

This may be a tough read for some of you, but it's a story that needed to be told.

Tamara has been on opiate pain medication for fifteen years for her fibromyalgia and arthritis pain.

What she didn't realize until just recently was all the problems that medication was causing... including MORE PAIN.

This is Tamara's story of how, and WHY, she decided she needed to come off her opiates and find another solution. I hope you take the time to read it with an open mind and heart.

On the third Thursday of every month, I hold a special workshop: Gentle Goal Setting for Fibromyalgia & CFS.

This workshop is specifically designed to give you a more gentle way to accomplish things. A way to do things besides just "push, push, push" then "crash!"

I also hold this same workshop with my Health & Wellness Team as a live event called, "A Healthy New You" Health Goals Workshop. Our next one will be Next Thursday, April 5th at 6:30 PM.

Here's what people had to say about these two events:

"This class was above and beyond what I expected. I just thought it would turn out to be like every other 'goal setting' session I have ever done - one that I can stick to and follow for a week, maybe a little longer, but in the end feel defeated.

"This planning was completely different - one that I can see myself sticking to since each goal is broken down into smart, obtainable steps meant for building confidence in accomplishing my bigger goals. Thank you, Tami!" - Missy Baxter

"I do a lot of goal setting in my business - and this class wasn't like any of the goal setting I've done before. This was a terrific workshop that really helped me focus on some goals that are very important to me."

- Julie Fugate

"I have to say that this class made setting some goals and achieving them a lot easier - knowing the steps to take to reach the goals I want to do in life. Thank you so much for the webinar, the help, and the tools for setting goals." - Lisa Patterson

Do YOU want to learn a new way to set goals that actually works?

Register for one of these two workshops! They both come with a free one hour coaching session with me!

Be Gentle with Yourself!

This newsletter was supposed to go out last week. Last Tuesday, in fact.

The perfectionist in me is kicking and screaming that, "I'm late! I'm late!", the wiser, kinder, part of me just takes a deep breath and smiles.

One of the things I've learned with my fibromyalgia is that sometimes good enough really IS good enough.

I doubt any of you were looking at your watches like Alice's friend the White Rabbit and tapping your toes last Tuesday wondering where this newsletter was. And if you were, now that it's here, you're simply glad to have it.

You see, we are usually harder on ourselves than anyone else is.

Take a deep breath. It's okay. You are right where you need to be, doing exactly what you need to be doing.

Fibro Facts

40% of Fibromyalgia Patients Have Carbohydrate Intolerance

During the March webinar for the fibro group I co-lead, Dr. Melissa Congdon shared this fascinating statistic.

This comes from the research done by Dr. Paul St. Amand, endocrinologist.

What does this mean to you? It means that you will feel much better on a diet that will keep your blood sugar level. It also means that you will do much better on a diet that is made up of lower glycemic index foods, such as protein and vegetables, and low in high glycemic index foods, such as carbohydrates.

This also means that avoiding sugar, refined flour, etc. will be key to helping you feel your best.

The nutritional program that my doctor recommended to me, that totally changed my life!, is exactly this type of program. I'd love to help you feel better too, so let's chat!
