Upcoming Sundays . . .
Sunday, May 13th, 9 am & 11 am "The Spirituality of Parenting"

This Mother's Day Service includes the semi-annual Dedication of our newest babies and children. The Children's Choir sings at 9 a.m. and the Adult Choir will sing at both services. Both choirs are offering special music this morning to support the Sheet Music Fund.
Sunday, May 20th, 9 am & 11 am "In Praise of our Roots"
FUUSB members Gene Bergman, Julia Kimball, and Bridget Meyer will explore the diversity and beauty that can be found in our religious roots. We will acknowledge the pain of the past, but dig down past it to draw from the strength and joy that often are burrowed below in the spiritual traditions of our families. Gene will discuss his Jewish background, Julia her Mormon heritage, and Bridget will speak about growing up Catholic.

Webmaster - We are looking for someone with some experience in being a webmaster. Our website was redesigned about 2 years ago and is fairly easy to maintain. We are looking for someone who would be willing to spend a couple hours a week adding new content and updating current content. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to use their skill to help the First UU Society fulfill our mission! If you are interested, please contact Christina at xina@uusociety.org.

Pay it Forward with the Magic of Pennies! The Religious Education here at the First UU Society of Burlington has a tradition akin to the collection plate where pennies are collected while singing the Magic Penny song. With this money that is collected we have blessed others lives by passing it along to animal species in trouble, people in need in the Burlington area, and groups in other countries. This year we are proposing a new way to pass along the collection. Over the next several weeks, you will be reading and hearing about this adventure as we put our 7 UU principles and faith into action through the concept of Pay it Forward. In a June service, we will be handing out envelopes of cash and talk about how a little bit of money can be magic to others as it touches many other's lives. Please take a few moments to see how this venture was inspired in one UU congregation in San Mateo and consider participating in our adventure and returning in October with a celebration of those magic pennies. http://congregationalstewardship.blogs.uua.org/stewardship/san-mateos-celebration-sunday-inspires-generosity Here is what they did with their money in a blog: http://choosetoblesstheworld.blogspot.com/2010/04/what-have-you-been-inspired-to-do-to.html#comments Consider how you live your faith. How can this money support you putting your/ our faith into action? We will be asking you to have fun keeping track of what you do (journaling, photos, video, join our blog etc) so we can all share how our UU principles came alive through the summer! |

Just Two Spots Left for June 15 UU RE Camping Trip!
We'd love for you to join in the fun, and you can find a map and the sign-up forms down in the Community Room.
We're going to send the balance of our payment on Monday, May 14 and won't be adding to our group reservation after that day. If you or friends or family want to sign up after that, just call the park and make your reservations directly with them. They may not be in the same immediate area, but it's a small park and we'll still all be pretty close to each other.
(If this is the first you're hearing of it or can use a reminder of the details: this is a much-beloved weekend of relaxing, hiking, boating, eating, visiting with friends, and playing in which we rent 21 tent and lean-to sites at Lake Elmore (near Morrisville, a little more than an hour's drive from Burlington. We have a few optional planned activities, like the potluck on the Friday we arrive, a loosely planned hike up Elmore Mountain on Saturday afternoon, the Sat. evening campfire ... and lots of time to just do what you and your family enjoy while in good UU company in a beautiful setting. This year's trip will take place Friday, June 15 - Sunday, June 17. It is $40 per campsite for the weekend - make checks to FUUSB, with "camping trip" in the memo line.)
