Our Mission:  We gather to inspire spiritual growth, care for each other and our community, seek truth and act for justice.

Upcoming Worship Services!

Wednesday, November 23, Music Meditation 5 p.m., Service  5:30 - 6 p.m.

Today's service will be led by Dian Mueller and the theme is "Giving Thanks" -- a thoughtful beginning to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. See you there!

Sunday, November 27, 9 & 11 a.m.

"Equal Marriage - the Right to Marry Whom You Love" Charlie Clements will explore why some rights are protected by the Constitution and others like 'equal' or same-gender marriage are subjected to plebiscite. He will explore 'equal marriage' in the context of other rights such as to serve in the military, visit your loved one in an ICU, or inherit property from your partner for life. Though same-gender couple may marry in Vermont today, there are still 44 other states in which this right is not recognized.

Wednesday, November 30,  Music Meditation 5 p.m., Service 5:30 p.m.

Handcrafting forJoy and Peace - Reflections on November 30 will be led by Jean and Sosenna Palmer.  Sosenna will teach finger-knitting to participants and we'll share readings on knitting for peace.  Our product will be beautiful garlands for holiday decorating. Please join us -- Older children and families most welcome!

Sunday, December 4,  9 & 11 a.m.

"Advent 1: Finding Faith" Rev. Roberta will use the writings of contemporary spiritual commentator Anne Lamott to explore the meaning of faith for Unitarian Universalists. We will welcome our newest members at both services.

 Kids -- Clean Your rooms!

Remember to donate your gently used items to the UU Holiday Bazaar -- we will be accepting donations THIS Sunday November 27 from 10 - 1 in the Community Room, as well as other days next week. Look for the bright yellow  flyer for details of donation times and items accepted. We're especially eager to get toys and books for kids of all ages -- our sixth graders count on the money raised to help fund their Boston trip in the spring. Kids! Clean out your rooms of toys you're tired of  -- make room for some new toys.

UU Book Discussion Group

You are invited to join us on December 13 at 7:00 or December 20 at 1:00 at the UU as we discuss Why I Left the Amish by Saloma Miller Furlong.  In this book, the curtain is raised for a look inside the Amish culture and religion.  This is a courageous and uplifting memoir about a journey which starts in a dysfunctional family and leads to a life of opportunities.

The Sweet Smell of Nothing

By: Christina Fulton

Many of you do not know this, but I have a super power! No, I cannot leap tall buildings in a single bound, I'm most certainly not faster than a speeding bullet, and contrary to rumors I am definitely not more powerful than a locomotive. Have you guessed it yet? No? Well here it is . . .I have Super Smell. Super smell, you haven't heard of that one? Well let me tell you a little bit about my life with Super Smell.

When David uses a new cleaning product in the building, I can always smell it before he tells me about it. When the Sunday School Class that meets in the Whitney Young Jr. Room does a craft that uses paint on Sunday morning, I can smell it the minute I open my office door on Monday morning. And when you wear perfume to church, I can smell that too.

The amazing thing to me is that I'm not the only one with Super Smell. Once I started talking about it, I found that there are lots of other people who are just like me. And all of us folks with Super Smell, we all struggle with our super power. You see, my Super Smell causes me to have migraine headaches. All I need to do is hug one friend who is wearing perfume and I can end up flat in bed for an entire afternoon. I know others with Super Smell who can get nauseated, break out in hives or even have asthma attacks. Some people cannot even come to church on Sunday mornings.

So why am I sharing this with you? I am hoping that you will help me and all the other members and friends suffering from Super Smell. I am hoping that you will do your part by not wearing perfumes or other scented personal care products to church on Sundays. Our Society has already switched to natural scent free cleaning products. Let's try and make our Society a truly welcoming congregation by making it a scent-free zone. Thank you!
