Upcoming Sundays!
Sunday, November 6, 9 & 11 a.m.
"Faithful Democracy: An Election Day Reflection" Fully at the heart of our Seven Principles are the words, "We covenant to affirm and promote the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large." As Election Day approaches, let us reflect together on what it means to be faithfully democratic
Sunday, November 13, 9 & 11 a.m.
"The First Smooth Stone: Revelation is Continuous" Our interim minister will begin an irregular sermon series based on an essay by UU theologian James Luther Adams entitled The Five Smooth Stones of Liberalism. The title draws on the biblical image of the shepherd boy David carefully choosing five smooth stones for his sling shot as he prepared for his confrontation with Goliath. This essay will also be the basis for an adult education series beginning in February.

Religious Education News! OWL Parents: Nov. 13 Parent session Sunday, Nov. 13 from 12:30 - 1:30 PM we will offer an optional session for OWL Parents on the topic of gender identity. It will be led by Ron Bernard-Rivera, a member of our greater OWL teaching team. Check the white board by the elevator for room location. Teachers: Urgent needs? 11th hour cancellations? Here is a reminder of ways in which you can help US help YOU: 1. Call the UU at 862-5630 and leave a voicemail in box #6, stating the specifics of who you are, what role you are unable to fill, which service time (9:00 or 11:00), and specifically which class. This mailbox is checked every Sunday morning after 8:30 AM, so we can announce last-minute substitute needs from the pulpit. 2. Contact others on your teaching team as far in advance as you can, to solicit their support should you not be able to do your part on a given Sunday. 3. If you foresee needs during Friday or Saturday, you can email me at martha@uusociety.org. Indicate the urgency of your need in the subject line and I will do what I can to support you for Sunday. 4. Remember, on Sunday mornings if you need extra classroom backup, you can lean on the RE Angel. He/she needs to visit all classes, but can spend extra time with one or two where needs are high. Ask for help explicitly! 5. Our RE Program Handbook is a handy support reference: RE Handbook Thank you all! Multigenerational Small Group Ministry Is your curiosity piqued by this idea? Can you imagine the possibilities for learning and spiritual growth that a small group of intentionally mixed generations might provide? Do you, like I, find it fascinating to hear the perspective of someone of a generation different than yours? Do you wonder how in the world this would work, but dare to experiment with possibilities? Multigen SGM is a mostly untried idea in UU circles, and I'd love to play with it here, so we might become leaders by experience, and offer to other congregations any successful models we discover. If you're interested in giving this a try, let me know at martha@uusociety.org or 862-5630 x 28. -Martha Dallas Fresh Sunday for RE Program This Sunday! 11/6 (Both Services) We hope you're excited about our upcoming Fresh Sunday on November 6. These are days that are being specially programmed to bring together our larger community around issues that the entire congregation is involved with. Accordingly, for November, we've got some learning and helping opportunities for kids of all ages around the themes of food, nutrition and food access. You are welcome to join in, whether or not you have children in RE programs. Please just contact Cheryl at herrickvt@gmail.com if you'd like to know more about the activities that will take place at both services. Especially important for families 4th, 5th & 6th graders is this: This group is going to take a quick walking trip to City Market and (with money we'll give them), buy a healthy meal to share when they come back, using only the amount a low-income Vermont family would be reasonably able to budget. Here's what we need from the parents of kids in this group to help make this all come together: We will need to be walking away from UU by 9:05/11:05 to stay on track. If you can arrive a few minutes early and meet in the parlor, that would be terrific. We'll have a permission sheet that needs signing by parents for any child who's going. The group will be accompanied by at least three adults. If you're interested in going, we'd love to have you - just let us know. (We especially need a little help at 1st service.) Do you have a solar calculator we can borrow? It'll help our shopping groups. We're excited to help our FUUSB kids join in the social mission of the congregation in a new way, and appreciate your willingness to help it come together!

EXCITING PARTNER CHURCH NEWS
As reported previously, Zoltan Kopandi, the minister from our Partner Church in Lupeny, Transylvania, is studying this year at Starr King Seminary in California. He and his wife Ildiko and 11 year old son Guszti are coming to visit us December 30 to January 10!

Zoli will be preaching at the January 8 Sunday Services. Their trip will include stops in Appleton, WI, Burlington, St. Louis, and Chicago before returning to California.
Your Partner Church Committee would like to hold a preliminary planning session this Sunday at 12:30 pm after the 2nd service to discuss possibilities to make their visit as rewarding as possible and to determine who would be interested in helping make this happen. We welcome anyone who would like to invite them for a meal, prepare food for a larger gathering at the church, or take them to an interesting event or place. We particularly would like to connect with a family with an eleven year old boy for Guszti to meet. We look forward to determining those interested so we can line up further planning and scheduling meetings.
We also would welcome and appreciate any cash contributions to the Partner Church Fund to help pay for our share of the air fare.
Look forward to seeing some of you on Sunday. Look for the meeting place on the white board. Thanks. Bill Suiter and Bill Klock Partner Church Co-Chairs
