Global Health Volunteer Program Nears Capacity for Winter Break 2010/2011
The progress at FIMRC sites across the globe is fueled by Global Health Volunteers, and this winter will bring FIMRC even closer to the goal of providing underserved communities with access to healthcare. December and January are popular months for our volunteers, who generously give their winter breaks to make a difference in the lives of others. For years, our sites have consistently been filled with passionate and committed volunteers, and this year is no exception! Our sites in Costa Rica, Peru, and Nicaragua are already at capacity for several weeks in December and January, with interest in our sites in El Salvador, Uganda, and India growing each day. Our site staff is thrilled to be working with students and medical professionals from areas as diverse as California, Georgia, Indiana, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, and South Carolina. Thanks to all future Global Health Volunteers for your time and dedication!

The strides this partnership has achieved in its three plus years is due in large part to Arlington Academy of Hope's donor base. FIMRC staff members attended this year's SanGala on October 26, at the Key Bridge Marriott Hotel. Congratulations to the evening's hosts for putting on such a memorable event. FIMRC Team Member Highlight: Tania Lopez, M.D.
Tania Lopez is the physician in charge of the clinic for Project Las Delicias in El Salvador. Tania is spearheading the implementation of an Electronic Medical Records (EMR) system devised in conjunction with FIMRC 2010 Summer Fellow Steve Purcell. A few noteworthy benefits to such a system include fast tracked patient intake, one-touch reference for patients' medical history, and quick referral to neighboring medical facilities. Tania's assessment of the EMR system will guide FIMRC's long-term goal of moving to an EMR system for all project sites. FIMRC would like to thank Tania for her investment in FIMRC's sustainability and imprint with global health initiatives.
